  1. Hi all, have just upgraded to 3.0.184, a little late to the party. Not sure about a few things and would love to understand better. It seems to me like there is now an increased over-reliance on inline style width declarations on Inputfields. To me, they seem like extra bits of unnecessarily specific css that impede easily customisable CSS. I can't wrap my head around why they are needed. Surely CSS and flexbox can do this better, easier, with much greater flexibility, less javascript, less thread work, less bytes and less layout shifts? In previous versions, data-colwidth on everything with a width worked just fine. Was very easy to target li[data-colwidth] and use calc to add a margin if desired and use flexbox to flex like a champion, taking up available space. Lovely, simple, flexible and lightweight. Now it seems some wrappers have a style="width: ..." where once they had data-colwidth and some Inputfields have data-original-width. Each can technically be over-ridden using ...sigh... a multitude of repetitive !important declarations, but that is not ideal. Is there something I am missing? Is there a reason the inline width styles were needed? Is there a benefit I am unaware of? Can I help provide possible alternate solutions to whatever use case necessitated it? In a similar vein, I also got to see maxColHeightSpacer for the first time. Can't say it was a pleasure for it to appear. Similar to the use of inline style="width:..." on Inputfields, in the age of flexbox I don't understand why a spacer div with inline height is needed. Is there a need for it I just don't get? Hadn't seen it before but found some info from a few years ago here: Anyway, I would honestly love any insight on any of this. Would love to understand the 'why' and, if possible, help.
  2. Hi, I'm really struggling with this as it's something not in my wheelhouse. I'm creating a blog style page (a grid of cards) which has attributes. I have a snip of javascript which grabs values from checkboxes which are put into a value like the below: ?content=static_video&channel=facebook-ads_instagram-ads document.querySelector("form").onsubmit=ev=>{ ev.preventDefault(); let o={}; ev.target.querySelectorAll("[name]:checked").forEach(el=>{ (o[el.name]=o[el.name]||[]).push(el.value)}) console.log(location.pathname+"?"+ Object.entries(o).map(([v,f])=> v+"="+f.join("_")).join("&") ); document.location.href = location.pathname+"?"+ Object.entries(o).map(([v,f])=> v+"="+f.join("_")).join("&"); } As I'm currently refeshing the page on button click with those values the end result includes the location but can easily remove this. I then use this value in "input->get" to get the values which I then append to a find() rule. See code below: $selector = "template='adbank_pages',sort=published,include=all,status!=hidden"; // Get the channel and content inputs $channel = $input->get->channel; $content = $input->get->content; if($channel){ // Grab the channel string, explode into an array for checkbox checking and then replace _ with | to create or rules in the selector. $chanArray = explode("_", $channel); $chan = $channel = str_replace('_', '|', $channel); $selector = $selector .= ",ab_channels=$chan"; } if($content){ // Grab the content string, explode into an array for checkbox checking and then replace _ with | to create or rules in the selector. $contArray = explode("_", $content); $cont = $content = str_replace('_', '|', $content); $selector = $selector .= ",ab_content=$cont"; } if($input->get){ // If a valid input result $all = $pages->find($selector); } }else{ // If no input show them all $all = $page->children("template='adbank_pages',sort=-published,include=all,status!=hidden"); } $items = $all->find("limit=12"); // Limit the output and use pagination As mentioned above I currently refresh the page to adjust the $selector filter within the $all with a fallback $all if there are no results. I know I need to use AJAX to filter the content without refresh but I am really struggling with the set up. I have read multiple posts including the original by Ryan but still confused. If anyone can direct/help on this it would be appreciated. Thank you
  3. could someone help me find the javascript bug? https://codepen.io/bbblgmsp/pen/LYxWJJa or here: https://foobar.roofaccess.org/carousell/ I want it to be NOT draggable on desktop but draggable on mobile devices. Also, on mobile, the element that I drag into focus should automatically be active, but on desktop, only when I click it. It works fine on desktop, but when you drag on mobile, after the dragged element is active and you click it, it switches back and forth between this and the previous element (assigns the active class to the previous element). I already tried to find help elsewhere, since this is not directly PW related but only frontend, but it's hard to find support or a community for uikit. PW seems to be using it quite a lot though… Thanks for help
  4. Hello to all. I would like to create an app. So I need to learn at least one programming language. I got informed online, and discovered that javascript with node.js, is the revolution of recent years, because it's faster than php. I wonder: if I develop an app with javascript and with a javascript framework (e.g. Meteor), is there a way to integrate processwire work? I know that processwire supports the transformation of the site into an application, but would it be as simple as Meteor? With the Meteor framework I have my app online in 10 minutes, and without even knowing javascript! (Knowing javascript would serve to personalize it). I should then install the app in a SUB-DOMAIN. If I study php, instead, and if I use a php framework (e.g. Laravel), how long does it take to have my first working app? Is it easy to process Laravel's components? Is writing forms for processwire apps with php a very complex job? Is it better to use Meteor and start with javascript? What would you recommend?
  5. My clients wants a modal to show up on every page. But when a user clicks inside the modal -> a session-cookie is set and the modal gets a class. // user clicks on modal button $('.modal_button').click(function(){ // 1. set PW session cookie // 2. toggle class $('.modal').toggleClass('off'); }); I know how to set a cookie on page-load via PW-API. But the click on the modal button does not force a page-load. So i have to set the cookie through javascript. Is there a way to do that?
  6. Hi there, I'm trying to get to work some AJAX call with vanilla Javascript, not jQuery. Anything seems to work so far, but the !$config->ajax seems to be ignored. To find out whats the problem by comparing both, jquery and plain javascipt, i built this template. commenting out //loadJquery(''); or loadVanilla(''); switches the two variants. (empty url variable means that the same pages will be loaded.) The problem: the pure Javascript function ("loadVanilla") is loading the full page content into the dc-container, which is wrong. The jQuery function ("loadJquery") only loads the part outside of the if(!$config->ajax): - which is as it should be. So - any help with this, what am i doing wrong? Thanks a lot - Matze <?php namespace ProcessWire; if(!$config->ajax): ?> (some static content)<br> <a id="loadlink" href="#">load</a><br> <?php endif; // end if not ajax ?> <span id="dc-container">(dynamic content)</span> <?php if(!$config->ajax): ?> <script src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-3.3.1.min.js"></script> <script> var loadlink = document.getElementById('loadlink'); loadlink.addEventListener('click', function(event) { //loadJquery(''); loadVanilla(''); event.preventDefault() }); function loadVanilla(url) { var xhttp = new XMLHttpRequest(); xhttp.onreadystatechange = function() { if (this.readyState == 4 && this.status == 200) { document.getElementById("dc-container").innerHTML = 'loaded: ' + this.responseText + (' (by vanilla javascript)'); } }; xhttp.open("POST", "", true); xhttp.send(); } function loadJquery(url){ // Load content $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: url, data: { ajax: true }, success: function(data,status){ pageData = data; } }).done(function(){ // when finished and successful document.getElementById("dc-container").innerHTML = 'loaded: ' + pageData + ' (by jquery ajax)'; }); } </script> <?php endif; // end if not ajax ?>
  7. Hello Everyone, I am new in this community and I am learning typescript but my friend was suggested to me go with javascript profile because it is most popular scripting language for many web projects and huge community support with lots of documentation and support for solving issues. Can anyone clear this point which one is better for future points of view typescript or javascript?

  10. Hi Guys I needed to add extended functionalities for the InputfieldDatetime Module (module is from processwire version 2.7.3) because of a Request of Customer. So I duplicated the module and placed it under /site/modules/. I have added 3 new Settings to the InputfieldDatetime Module. 1. Day Restriction - Restrict different days based on weekdays selection (e.g. saturday, sunday) - WORKING 2. Time Slots - Define Time slots based on custom Integer Value (max is 60 for 1 hour) - WORKING 3. Time Range Rules per Weekday - Define a minTime and MaxTime per Weekday (e.g. Opening Hours of a Restaurant) - NOT WORKING PROPERLY The Problem Time Slots and Day Restriction working fine so far. But the Time Range Rules per Weekday doesn't work right. What should happen is, that when you click on a date, it should update the minTime and maxTime of the Time Select. But the change on the select only happens if you select a date 2 times or when you select a date 1 time and then close the datepicker and reopen it again. The time select doesn't get change when you select a date 1 time and don't close the picker. Here is the whole extended InputfieldDatetime Module. The Files that I have changed: InputfieldDatetime.module InputfieldDatetime.js jquery-ui-timepicker-addon.js (https://trentrichardson.com/examples/timepicker/) - updated it to the newest version, because minTime and maxTime Option was only available in the new version Thats the Part of the JS that is not working correctly: if(datetimerules && datetimerules.length){ options.onSelect = function(date, inst) { var day = $(this).datetimepicker("getDate").getDay(); day = day.toString(); var mintime = $(this).attr('data-weekday'+day+'-mintime'); var maxtime = $(this).attr('data-weekday'+day+'-maxtime'); console.log("weekday: "+day); console.log("minTime: "+mintime); console.log("maxTime: "+maxtime); var optionsAll = $(this).datetimepicker( "option", "all" ); optionsAll.minTime = mintime; optionsAll.maxTime = maxtime; $(this).datetimepicker('destroy'); $(this).datetimepicker(optionsAll); $(this).datetimepicker('refresh'); //$.datepicker._selectDate($(this).attr("id"),date); //$.datepicker._base_getDateDatepicker(); // var inst = $.datepicker._getInst($(this)); // $.datepicker._updateDatepicker(inst); /*$(this).datetimepicker('destroy'); InputfieldDatetimeDatepicker($(this), mintime, maxtime); $(this).datetimepicker('refresh'); */ // $(this).datetimepicker('option', {minTime: mintime, maxTime: maxtime}); } } Can you have a look and find out what the Problem is? InputfieldDatetime.zip Kind Regards Orkun
  11. What the f*ck JavaScript? A list of funny and tricky JavaScript examples Some really odd stuff there... worth scanning through. I chuckled more than once... "b" + "a" + +"a" + "a"; // -> 'baNaNa' NaN === NaN; // -> false (![] + [])[+[]] + (![] + [])[+!+[]] + ([![]] + [][[]])[+!+[] + [+[]]] + (![] + [])[!+[] + !+[]]; // -> 'fail' typeof NaN; // -> 'number' (It ain't new, so sorry if this has been posted previously here)
  12. Which is better Elm or Typescript?
  13. I just wanted to share that I added an AJAX-powered gallery to an artist website that I developed and host: https://jackpinecreations.com/gallery/ There were two things that frustrated me about creating this. Perhaps you can show me a better way. 1. After creating my processing script, which I placed under /templates/scripts/get-items.php, I realized that I would get a 403, due to ProcessWire's routing and security. This forced me to have to create a template and page for this little script. This was frustrating simply because it seemed unnecessarily confusing. But worse, see #2. 2. I usually use config.php to prepend and append each of my templates with a head.inc and foot.inc, which keeps my templates easy to use and I don't have to go and use the GUI to do so on each template separately. However, since I realized I needed to create a new template and page so as to access it, whenever I sent POST params to it, I would get the header and footer along with it!!! I could find no workarounds and had to remove the pre/append calls in config.php and use the GUI on each template individually. Code Below if you're interested: HTML and JavaScript (forgive my sad JavaScript skills, I know this can be tightened up) <!-- Begin Grid --> <div class="container mt-4"> <div id="gallery" class="row"> <?php foreach ($page->children("limit=9") as $child): ?> <div class="col-6 col-md-4 gallery-item"> <a href="<?= $child->url ?>" title="View <?= $child->title ?>"> <img class="gallery-item" src="<?= $child->item_featured_image->size(640, 640)->url ?>" alt="<?= $child->title ?> Image"> </a> </div> <?php endforeach; ?> </div> </div> <!-- End Grid --> <div class="center-block text-center"> <button id="get-more-items" type="button" name="get-more-items" class="btn-vintage">Load More</button> </div> <script type="text/javascript"> var buttonGetItems = document.getElementById("get-more-items"); var indexStart = 0; buttonGetItems.addEventListener("click", function() { indexStart += 9; $.ajax({ url: '<?= $pages->get(1186)->url ?>', type: "POST", dataType:'json', // add json datatype to get json data: ({page_id: <?= $page->id ?>, index_start: indexStart}), success: function(data){ console.log(data); if (data[1]) { //for each element, append it. $.each(data, function(key, value) { $("#gallery").append(value); }); } else { $("#get-more-items").after('<p class="center-block text-center">There are no more items to load.</p>'); $("#get-more-items").remove(); } } }); }); </script> Processing Script <?php $items_array = []; $i = 0; foreach ($pages->get($input->post->page_id)->children->slice($input->post->index_start, 9) as $child) { $i++; $items_array[$i] = "<div class='col-6 col-md-4 gallery-item'> <a href='$child->url' title='View $child->title'> <img src='{$child->item_featured_image->size(640,640)->url}' alt='$child->title Image'> </a> </div>"; } echo json_encode($items_array); I love ProcessWire for hundreds of reasons, but I've been using AJAX more and more, and I'm not liking having to create templates to access scripts. Any advice?
  14. Confession bear meme on tests: I'm a virgin. Never implemented any of them, mostly because I work alone for many years now. But found this cool project today, called Cypress. This is the easiest way to test a website or app I've found. Check their intro video out: https://docs.cypress.io/guides/getting-started/writing-your-first-test.html Note: I recommend this Chrome extension to speed up videos: https://github.com/igrigorik/videospeed as the narration of this video is kinda slow. 🙂
  15. Hello, I'm getting a JS error in the admin backend when editing pages with template basic-page as non superuser: TypeError: a.ProcessPageList is not a function in InputfieldPageListSelect.min.js Investigating the JS, I found that the ProcessPageList function is not available on the page when I am logged in as a non superuser. The function is defined in /wire/modules/Process/ProcessPageList/ProcessPageList.min.js which is not loaded when logged in as non superuser. When logged in as a superuser, the file gets loaded. I have no fancy permission settings for that template for the role admin that the non superuser belongs to: This started happening on a site that is in development but online for some time now. I can't say which actions might have caused this. But it is a consistent error only for this one template. The site is running on 3.0.42 EDIT: The inputfield triggering the error is an image field (in fact there are 2 of them in that template) Any pointers to potential causes for this problem would be much appreciated. EDIT: The problem is not related to any file changes. When I run the same install with a DB backup, the error disappears. So it must be something that has changed in the DB. Trying to diff the DB dumps and see if I can find anything suspicious
  16. Hi I'm currently developing a website for a photographer and the most of the editing needs I#m using FrontEndEditLightbox. https://github.com/rolandtoth/FrontEndEditLightbox So far so good. Now I also want to show the PageList sliding in from the side, like when clicking on the little tree in the admin area. How can I achieve this? I've already seen the xhr - request that is done when clicking and have implemented a javascript doing the same request and parsing that json. But i'm wondering if that is the right way to go? Thanks. robig
  17. Long but well written, detailed and informative article written by an Engineering Manager for Google Chrome about the true cost of Javascript and what you can do to alleviate some of that cost. Must read! https://medium.com/@addyosmani/the-cost-of-javascript-in-2018-7d8950fbb5d4
  18. Hi, I would like to start tracking my website visitors with Leady software. Searched the forum for similar discussion yet did not find the right answer. Could you please tell me how can I add their javascript to my website? Is there any step by step guide available? Any help appreciated.
  19. So I have a fairly unusual project, and I am still trying to wrap my head around it (so excuse me if this doesnt make much sense). A user will create parent page (in the backend) with a modal (piece of cake), but then have a custom js file for each parent page. I wouldn't have an issue with creating a new file everytime, but this instance calls for it pretty much to be an automated process as the users are not tech savy. I was thinking that I could create the template for the modal (which will be iframed elsewhere), and using an approach found here, automatically create a "js" child page that I could then somehow output to a custom js file. I guess I have several questions regarding this since the modal is iframed in: 1. Since the init script for the modal has to be outside of the iframe (and placed elsewhere), what is the best way to render the custom script (which will be generated from options on the page in the backend. 2. Would it even be safe/secure to even attempt this since the js file would be referenced elsewhere (though still in a file on the pw install)
  20. So, I am not even sure if this is possible, but I thought I would ask anyway. I was building a "system" that would make some modals (izimodal) using a few fields. A user would select the color combo they want, enter a title, fill out the body, and then I was going to pass this (in the template) to fill in the modal. I have this all working pretty flawlessly. <div id="example-modal" class="model" data-izimodal-autoopen data-izimodal-transitionin="fadeInDown" data-izimodal-iframeURL="<?php echo $page->example->url; ?>"></div> <script type="text/javascript"> $("#ca-entrance-modal").iziModal({ title: 'Custom Title Here', subtitle: '', headerColor: 'Custom Color Here', history: false, iframe : true, fullscreen: false, loop: false, width: 350, iframeHeight: 350, top: null, bottom: null, borderBottom: false, closeButton: true, }); </script> However, I have hit a road block. The modals are using iframes to pull in the corresponding modal page, but the javascript options are not being iframed (so the modal will actually launch etc). My thought was the user can just copy the page link to the modal, and insert it into the iframe and simply adding the js code, the modal would work (which it does). I guess here is my actually problem. Since the user is selecting several options to "customize" the modal, the javascript is custom and differs between each modal. Is there a way to "disable" a textarea, and output the "custom" javascript inside the textarea so they can copy it for inclusion on their actual pages? Or, is this something that I should just output in the frontend view for users.
  21. I've implemented Slick sliders on WordPress sites many times, but I've never had this error before. The site is here. The template code I'm using is: <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="/site/templates/scripts/slick/slick.css"/> <script type="text/javascript" src="/site/templates/scripts/slick/slick.js"></script> <?php // if (count($page->home_header_image) > 0): ?> <div class="home-featured-image slick-carousel"> <?php foreach($page->home_header_image as $image): ?> <div class="slide"><img src="<?php echo $image->size(1280,420)->url; ?>"></div> <?php endforeach ?> </div> <?php // endif ?> <script> (function($) { $('.slick-carousel').slick(); })( jQuery ); </script> The JS error I'm getting is: TypeError: $.proxy is not a function. (In '$.proxy(_.autoPlay, _)', '$.proxy' is undefined) As you can see, I tried wrapping the JS call in noconflict, but that doesn't help. What am I missing?
  22. I have a table in my template that I would like to update using Ajax when a button is pressed. I am not sure how to go about this and hope somebody here could point me in the right direction. Here is my code for the table output. You can see I loop through the fields to output using a hard wired selector to list the retailer type. I have a button for Supermarkets that fires a js handler myFunc and I need to put the ajax there to call this page again with a param so I can then form the selector for supermarkets and update the table. When I get this working and understand how to do it in ajax I will code up a selector that is formed dependant on a bank of buttons and the table will update without the rest of the page - like magic! That's what ajax is for right?! Thanks for any help - Paul <button type="button" onclick="myFunc()" value="1" class="btn btn-primary">Supermarkets</button> <div class= "table-responsive"> <table class="table table-hover table-striped"> <thead> <tr> <th>Retailer</th> <th>No. bags issued</th> <th>Gross proceeds £</th> <th>Net proceeds £</th> <th>Other use of net proceeds</th> <th>Amount donated £</th> <th>Good causes in receipt of proceed</th> <th>No. of paper bags issued</th> <th>No. of bags for life</th> </tr> </thead> <tbody> <?php $pg = $pages->get("/single-use-carrier-bags/"); $retailer = $pg->find("category=DIY, sort=title, include=all"); foreach ($retailer as $r) { echo "<tr> <td><a href= '$r->url'>$r->title</a></td> <td>".numFormat($r->no_bags_issued)."</td> <td>".numFormat($r->gross_proceeds)."</td> <td>".numFormat($r->net_proceeds)."</td> <td>$r->other_use_net_proceeds</td> <td>".numFormat($r->amount_donated)."</td> <td>$r->good_causes_in_receipt</td> <td>".numFormat($r->no_paper_bags_issued)."</td> <td>".numFormat($r->no_bags_for_life)."</td> </tr>"; } ?> </tbody> </table> </div> </div> </div> <script type="text/javascript"> function myFunc() { } </script>
  23. Hi, I'm using the excellent new front-end editing in PW 3.0.30 on a new project. I have a slick carousel that contains editable content. I'm able to edit the content in the slideshow fine but when I save, the page shows without the carousel initialized. Is it therefore possible to reinitialize something like slick after saving in front-end editing?
  24. CodeRunner 2 is on sale at MacUpdate: https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/38362/coderunner Mostly I use it for writing shell scripts, mocking up algorithms in PHP, JavaScript/jQuery. But is also supports other programming languages as well. https://coderunnerapp.com/ "An advanced, highly flexible, and easy-to-use programming editor for your Mac. CodeRunner supports a large number of languages, and delivers big IDE features while remaining lightweight and clutter-free."
  25. I had situations come up that just seemed like AJAX was the right way to handle interactions with the ProcessWire server - pages with an element like a button or link that should cause an action to occur but shouldn't require a form or actually following a link - it should just take the action and only update the toggle (a checkbox in this case) when the interaction is completed. Another use case is with a large page on which there are multiple possible interactions. When the page is heavy enough that redrawing results in a less than optimal user experience then it's nice to be able to submit a form without having to redraw the page in order to update the relevant parts. So with that preamble, here's what I put together. I was going to try to clean it up a bit but that has prevented me from posting this so I figured it's better to post it and clean it up if there is any interest. You'll see references to the namespace whale - the name of our project - that would ultimately be removed. There are two major components - the PHP side and the client-side. On the PHP side there are two functional areas: 1. "wrapping" an entity to be inserted into the HTML on a page Wrapping (the function 'makeContainer()' puts a predefined wrapper around one of three types of objects: FormBuilderForm, InputfieldForm, or Template). The wrapper provides context and attaches classes that allows the client JavaScript code to find the wrapper and figure out what to do with it. // // define a function that makes a "form" of a single button. // function makeButton ($label) { // get the form $form = wire('modules')->get("InputfieldForm"); $form->attr('action', './'); $form->attr('method', 'post'); $submit = wire('modules')->get("InputfieldSubmit"); $submit->attr('id+name', 'submit'); $submit->attr('value', $label); $form->add($submit); return $form; } // wrapper function to set label on submit button function requestUserDeleteList() { return makeButton('Do it!'); } // // makeContainer wraps the rendered InputfieldForm in HTML so the client JavaScript can recognize it and handle // AJAX interactions with the server. // It returns the InputfieldForm object and the HTML to be inserted into the page. Note that makeContainer // is in a different namespace so it requires the function name must be qualified with the \ProcessWire prefix. // list ($form, $deleteUsersHTML) = ajax\Request::makeContainer('do-something', '\ProcessWire\requestUserDeleteList'); 2. helping with the processing of an AJAX request that is submitted to the page. Helping with the AJAX request - the code is invoked on page load and determines where there is a valid AJAX request from something it wrapped. It also allows messages to be returned, classes to be added or removed from specific elements, redirects to be executed, or even wholesale replacement of DOM elements (with plenty of caveats). It will even update a submit key so it is possible for the client to execute a single transaction multiple times. // get a new request object for the AJAX transaction $request = new ajax\Request(); // if it isn't formatted correctly handle the error if (!$request->isValidCall()) { return $request->echoError(); } // get the data and function-specific contents (Whale Ajax Context) $data = $request->data(); $wac = wireDecodeJSON($data['wac']); // if ($request->id('wants-newsletter')) { if (!ajax\Request::hasCorrectProperties($data, ['wac', 'value'])) { return $request->echoError(__('invalid call')); } // implement function here } else if ($request->id('another-function')) { // implement function here } // it didn't match any of the AJAX IDs implemented return $request->echoError('not implemented'); The client code requires jQuery and is packaged as three separate functions because both the form and template processing share a common core set of functions. My original intent was to only load the form or non-form code as needed but they're small enough that it really doesn't matter. See attachments for the Request class and the client code. There are many helper functions. Here is a kind of an unfocused extract that illustrates using the code with more context (from an internal sandbox page): <?php namespace ProcessWire; using whale\ajax; // include server-side code for making forms and processing them require_once './utility/ajaxform.inc'; // custom version of ProcessWire/wire/core/WireFileTools.php render() that returns the // template object, not the rendered HTML require_once './utility/get-file-template.inc'; // START AJAX submitted form processing - decodes the request and stores results in $aaform. $aaform = new ajax\Request(); // // this page handles multiple ajax calls so I check to see if it is valid once and then check IDs. // It's also possible to use $aaform->isValidCall('get-user-delete-list') to check specifically // for a specific AJAX ID. The ID is the name provided to Request::makeContainer() when the object // is wrapped. It's also possible to make calls to $aaform->id('get-user-delete-list') to check // for a specific ID. // // to create the forms/input elements that are submitted via AJAX start with: // Request::makeContainer('unique-name-on-page', object) // unique-name-on-page will become the ID of the element that wraps your object. // object - one of ProcessWire\InputfieldForm, \FormBuilderForm, ProcessWire\Template. // if ($aaform->isValidCall()) { if ($aaform->id() === 'get-user-delete-list') { $form = requestUserDeleteList(); // process using the form. the Request object will check to make sure it's the right type. if (!$aaform->process($form)) { return $aaform->echoError(); } // build new form with usernames for selections to delete. the function getUsersToDelete() // returns a user count and a function that will make the form that includes the users in // a list of checkboxes. list($usercount, $formmaker) = getUsersToDelete(); // this returns a replacement to part of the existing DOM. There are limitations but it // handles adding a form or replacing an existing form. if ($usercount === 0) { $replacement = '<div id="ajax-place">No users to delete</div>'; } else { // we pass the $formmaker function to makeContainer(). It returns the form and the // rendered wrapper and form. list($xform, $xhtml) = ajax\Request::makeContainer('do-delete', $formmaker); $replacement = '<div id="ajax-place">' . $xhtml . '</div>'; } // this makes sure the return is formatted so the client can handle it correctly. in // this case a replacement in the DOM is being returned. The first argument is the // selector, the second is the HTML to replace the selected element with. return $aaform->echoReplacement('#ajax-place', $replacement); } else if ($aaform->id() === 'do-delete') { list($usercount, $formmaker) = getUsersToDelete(); // process using the form returned by $formmaker. this will check to make sure it's // the right type of form. This abstracts FormBuilder forms and InputfieldForms. if (!$aaform->process($formmaker())) { return $aaform->echoError(); } // a bunch of logic where the checked users are deleted $deleted = []; $failed = []; $data = $aaform->data(); foreach($data as $name => $value) { if ($name === $value) { $user = wire('users')->get("name=$name"); $email = $user->email; // delete the user and try to get it again to see if the delete worked wire('users')->delete($user); $u = wire('users')->get("name=$name"); if (!count($u)) { $deleted[] = $email . " ($name)"; } else { $failed[] = $email . " ($name)"; } } } $deleted_users = $failed_deletions = ''; if ($deleted) { $deleted_users = 'deleted:<br/>' . join($deleted, '<br/>') . '<br/>'; } if ($failed) { $failed_deletions = 'failed to delete:<br/>' . join($failed, '<br/>') . '<br/>'; } $replacement = '<div id="ajax-place">' . $deleted_users . $failed_deletions . '</div>'; return $aaform->echoReplacement('#ajax-place', $replacement); } else if ($aaform->id() === 'contact') { // here a FormBuilderForm is being loaded if (!$aaform->process($forms->load('contact'))) { return $aaform->echoError(); } // this sends a notice back. the client will place it in a predefined notice area. // Request::makeContainer() will create an area for notices (or you can supply one). // It is also possible to return errors; notices and errors get different classes. $msg = ajax\Request::makeNotice('bruce says hi'); return $aaform->echoSuccess($msg); } else { // it was a valid form but it doesn't match any ID that this page knows about. return $aaform->echoError('what is this?'); } } // normal processing to render the initial page follows as it was not a valid AJAX post // that is handled by Request(). That's a lot of code, so I won't post anymore. If people have interest I'm happy to explain or provide other bits of code, like the extracted get-file-template.inc function. Wrapping a template is similar to wrapping a form except that only certain HTML elements are tracked and each are sent to the server when they are clicked on (technically it varies). It handles radio buttons, checkboxes, links, and buttons (radios and checkboxes on "change" and links and buttons on "click"). So when a checkbox is checked an AJAX call will be made so it can be acted upon by the server. @microcipcip, @ryan, @valan (sorry to any if this isn't interesting to you - I did a quick scan of what looked like semi-related AJAX posts). ajaxform.inc ajaxclient.js
