@oliver I coudn't agree more but someone has to start building it. I would start it myself today if I was more of a developed developer at least in processwire. If there was something like woocommerce for wordpress but for processwire then I am sure I would never have to look outside of processwire ever again. I do think that something like this would have to be opensource with support from the community with possible added options of paid/premium add-ons/modules to really lift off. I am currently building a shop using opencart and it breaks my heart not to use Processwire.

Very nice.. just tryed it out and works perfectly. I had a little trouble with ajax but sorted out in the end. My fault for copy and pasting from the instructions but this code below needs to be changed: if ($('.js-simplecontactform').length) { $.simplecontactform($('.js-simplecontactform')); } to if ($('.js-simple_contact_form').length) { $.simplecontactform($('.js-simple_contact_form')); } just a matter of class name if using the default class of the form in simple_contact_form.php

@Joss Nice addition to the article.

I am working with opencart at the moment. It would be great to be able to integrate processwire and opencart together a little. A match made in heaven.

Does anyone here charge for consultation? I find that quite often the client doesn't know exactly what they want and they need a lot more information, advice and education which is quite valuable. Also it can be quite difficult to quote a price without first discovering and planning together what the client actually needs. It is quite possible after a bit of consultation and discovery that the client doesn't actually need a website or something totally different to what you are providing. Or after advising the client in the direction and plan that he needs to go towards his online goals and setting out what needs to be done for his website that the client then doesn't take you up on the offer and goes else where. This can then lead to consulting for free with no customer at the end. My question is does anyone bill for consultation before quoting or working on a project? I am thinking to bill for this time and then minus the amount from the total project bill if they take up the project with me, I often think that the knowledge and guidance that I provide is often more or just as valuable as the building or development of the website.

Give tosrus a try. You might get better results. It is also licenced under the MIT licence so you can use it for commercial use without paying for a licence although a donation is appreciated by the author if you do so. It supports scrolling and swiping. You can use Hammer.js with it for touch gestures.

@lisandi I wish I could give a like to some parts of your post and a dislike to other parts. I do like your enthusiasm and energy and honesty. You are not scared to share your opinions even if others don't agree and that can be a good thing even if it rocks the boat a bit. Hell I have done that a few times. I know that some of the answers here might seem a bit stick in the mud . I get it, really. I feel the same frustration sometimes but best to keep your posts civil. Everyone has their own ways of expression and perception and idea of where they would like Processwire to go. The guys and girls in this community are some of the best you will find. We need to respect what Joss and the others have already given to bring Processwire to where it is now. I would say that the best way to express what you want is to get building then show us.

@joss I agree with most of what you wrote in this last post and it is always a joy to read your posts even if I disagree with certain points at times as these issues are not always so black and white. Also I do think that it is actually quite possible that Processwire will be one of the last remaining developer cms out there once wix and weebly and such sites take over the net as far as small to medium websites go (I have lost 6 clients over the last 2 months to wix and weebly). From what I see sites like weebly and wix are already starting to eat into the wordpress market. It is quite possible Wordpress will be left behind one day. teppo related something on similar grounds earlier in this topic. So for sure Processwire should not become a web builder but is there no middle ground or grey area whereby some sort of theme structure could be made via a module that would allow themes to be created on a basic level that could also be extended by the developer after to utilise the api and everything else that Processwire has to offer. Could this basic theme template not then be used as a pattern or structure to which designers can create themes within a common basic structure that can be used by other developers, designers or non designer/developers to create websites within Processwire? Of course this would not take away from the already available Processwire profiles which can be used for their specific purposes and demonstration.
-
I totally agree with this. I would not be pleased if the core changed but am more than happy to see Processwire further extendable via modules. Nicos WiteThemes idea does appeal to me as far as themes go. This would keep both sides of the camp happy as far as accommodating those that wish to create or sell and use themes for Processwire and I think beneficial to both sides. I am still a little confused why there is opposition to this. I understand that there are some worries that the standard of the forum would go down but this could be sorted by making a dedicated section or forum for such discussions on this topic. It's just an idea before anyone sends the dogs after me. .
-
I have a feeling that this discussion is starting to lose the point. No one is suggesting that Processwire become wordpress as far as I can see. I do think that Wordpress does get a bit of a hard grilling from the folks over here including me at times for something that it once was. A bit like when your family never lets you forget what you did when you was 5 years old. Wordpress is not only a blogging platform anymore and has moved on a lot from the past and has grown up a bit. There are things we can learn from our older brother whether we like it or not. That does not mean we have to imitate him. I also remember when I first turned up here on the forum and expressed some views and got jumped on like a ton of lead. Sometimes there is something to learn from others looking in from the outside even if their judgement seems a little clouded and they don't yet fully appreciate the power of Processwire.
-
In one way I don't think there is any right or wrong here. It is just about which way each person wants to use and view Processwire and in which capacity together with each persons view of where they would like to see Processwire go in the future. I am probably just too greedy and want Processwire to be everything because I can see the endless possibilities and at it's core it is simply the best.
-
@lisandi I don't agree with all of what you wrote but I do think you made some valid points which should be listened to. Regarding themes: I do think there is a need a and a space for this whatever anyone says here. I have listened to the pros and cons and understand both sides but the positives of a theme system far out way the negatives in my opinion. I know any html/css theme can be integrated into processwire with a bit of work but a theming system could still be hugely beneficial for Processwire and it's status and it's users. Nico was working on something down this route which can be found here: https://processwire.com/talk/topic/7236-wirethemes/ and really good luck to him on that project. I love processwire to bits but am finding myself a little envious of the options that are available for wordpress such as woocommerce and a huge array of themes. Admittedly I am tempted sometimes to use Wordpress for certain projects that need ecommerce with other basic cms features that wordpress can provide. For me no theming system and lack of a decent e-commerce system like woocommerce for wordpress are my biggest issues with Processwire. I don't generally use themes but there are occasions when they can be useful to work from especially if a client is on a limited budget. Regarding ecommerce:I know that apeisa was working on some ecommerce modules but I am a little confused about how this will be licenced as I wrote here:https://processwire....apeisa/?p=77734 It would be great to see an open source plugin/module like woocommerce for Processwire with optional premium add-ons. I understand that if someone wants features such as wordpress then they can use Wordpress but i see no reason why Processwire can't be adapted to cater for all. I know that some here will disagree with me but I think there are valid concerns for later down the road for Processwire if it doesn't adapt and open up a little, as in the fast changing word of the web it is easy to get left behind.

I didn't notice any ads as I use Adblock plus . Just switched it off to have a look. woooooooooooooo that was quite a shock. Maybe you could please more of us if you had some kind of game on the page that gives those of us that don't like the ads an opportunity to shoot at the banners and destroy them before reading an article. I think my first shot would be at weebly side banner.

@kongondo Looks good. Nice improvements.

How to convince old client to swith from EE to PW?
dazzyweb replied to OrganizedFellow's topic in Pub
I don't know the differences between EE and Processwire but maybe someone that has experience in both could write out a pros and cons list. EE vs Processwire. That might be enough to convince client. -
I wasn't really thinking about a case where everyday editors would alter the markup output but rather as something that would be set up by the developer in 2 areas to set out the preferred markup/output for the full posts and truncated posts dependent on the posts design layout. I was just trying to think of something whereby the developer could have more control over the markup output. Probably there is a better way than i suggested I am not sure how I would be able to make certain changes or add content inside of the markup already output by renderPosts() using hanna code without a putting hanna code inserted in the module. I understand that it could be added before or after a post. (maybe I am missing something here). I look forward to this. One other things Is there a way to change the headings for post headline with current setup without editing the module?. For example there might be times that <h1> is preferred to <h2> for the post headline. Many Thanks for all the work you are putting into this module.
-
I am not sure if this is possible and maybe a bit of work to implement but I imagine a 2 textareas where the markup can be customised for the post or posts. One for full posts (blog-post.php) and one for truncated posts ($small). In each of these textareas html and short codes or variables could be entered which represent different parts of the post such as [featured] and [post-headline] etc... Then this is output with renderPosts()
-
I mean as in blog-post.php whereby the post headline for the post can be extracted and inserted into a main photo but removed from the rest of the post something like these examples shown here. https://www.heartinternet.uk/blog/article/were-sponsoring-confconf-2015 or here http://wplift.com/best-free-wordpress-themes-oct-2014 This can also be seen to work on small posts like here: http://wplift.com/ I was talking about both in a way. With small posts something like this: https://www.heartinternet.uk/blog and full listed posts something like this http://wplift.com/best-free-wordpress-themes-oct-2014
-
@apeisa Can't wait to see your pw e-commerce solution. I am a little confused how it will be released or in what format. Will some of the modules still be open sourced or will they all be bundled together now under a single site licence? Have you considered releasing the shop module/modules in a similar format to others such as woocommerce whereby the basic shop plugin is open source and free with then optional paid extensions (commercial plugins)?
-
@kongondo Thanks for all your work on the blog module and responsiveness to any requests. It would be great to be able to customise and control the output of the posts a bit more since there are many possibilities of how a post could be displayed or certain elements of a post displayed somewhere else on the page. For example I might want to put the post headline at the top of the page on a featured banner photo then have the actual post shown lower down in the main body of the page. At the moment this doesn't seem possible.(this was one option I was thinking about for a blog I am making now) Another thing I have been thinking about is how I would be able to add for example social media like buttons to each post when several posts are listed on a page or how I could put like buttons somewhere on a post other than at the very top or bottom of a single post shown.
-
@kongondo Yes something like those examples
-
I just tested it and it works fine thanks. I wanted the featured image above the headline so I am just wondering what the best way is to customise the output / markup a little more. For example I would like the featured image to be above post-headline and maybe the post-byline below the post-body. I know I could go in and change the renderPosts() method but would prefer not to change the plugin to do this.
-
@kongondo Thanks for the module. Great work. Having a look I noticed there is no featured image option for the posts. It is quite common to add a featured photo at the top of a post and to have it on the side or top of each post listed on the blogs home page. Is that something you are looking to add or is there a way to add it to renderPosts()?
