I've been using DuckDuckGo(the search engine that doesn't track you) for a while now and they recently released a redesigned and much improved Version. I have to say it looks great. duckduckgo.com Also Apple is making DuckDuckGo a part of Safari in the next versions of Mac OS and iOS as private search option. Does anyone think that DuckDuckGo can actually take a chunk out of Google? I would love to see them succeed.

Seems the Spanish are taking it seriously. Just read this: http://privacylawblog.fieldfisher.com/2014/history-in-the-making-the-first-cookie-rule-fines-in-europe

Reduced image quality of images added to image fields
dazzyweb replied to dazzyweb's topic in General Support
I am building a site and this site needs a gallery which i have created and it seems that there is still quite a problem with images to me. I use the thumbnails to display smaller versions of images in the gallery. jpg image thumbnails are a problem. The fix improved the image quality but it is still quite poor compared to previous versions of processwire. I have tested in several versions of php and the problem is still there with thumbnails. I have compared previous versions of Processwire and the image quality for cropped thumbnails is hugely different from the current version and the dev version. I tested in processwire 2.3.1 and thumbnail images were perfect quality Testing in 2.4 with the fix and the latest dev version it appears that the image quality of the thumb nails is much reduced. This can really be seen when using apeisa thumbnails module and hovering over the thumbnail preview in the admin of an image especially with the darker parts of the images. A good way to see it is to upload an image to an image field with type CropImage and set thumbnail settings to thumbnail,400,400. It can be clearly seen then that the image quality is not that great. When comparing this to processwire 2.3.1 it has quite a loss of image quality. I have tested this is php versions 5.3.28 and 5.4.25 and 5.5.9 all with the same results -
Discovering processwire is like arriving at your desired(or holiday) destination and being able to drop all your heavy baggage and sit down and enjoy a nice refreshing drink while thinking about all the exciting possibilities that lay ahead.

Has anyone tried stiva shopping cart? http://www.phpjabbers.com/stiva-shopping-cart/ Seems very simple to integrate into a Processwire site design.

Really pleased to see this on the product page.

Thanks for clarifying.

Looks very useful. I just looked at the terms and saw the following 'If you are purchasing ProFields on behalf of a particular client (rather than yourself), then the license extends only to the client.' Can you clarify what this means? Can I not use them when building clients sites with my licence?

This is also another approach if you want to keep the scroll wheel option working. http://codepen.io/jreece/full/szlov

I was looking at abantecart a while back as it looked really interesting but didn't really test it out properly. I think I will kill a little time playing around with it now. pwired, how is abantecart for you compared to prestashop or opencart? Why did you choose abantecart over other solutions?

That hosting should be fine to use processwire. I think that most modern hosting providers should be able to handle processwire. If I was you I would look around a bit more before committing as looking at UK2 promotion it looks like they are enticing people in for the package at £2.49 then it will revert back up to £14.95 once contract has ended.

Thanks Soma. Nice Tutorial

Is this something similar to repeaters but with the min and max inputs options added?

I have worked it out now. Seemed I had entered the parameters incorrectly in the 'Date Picker Year Range'. When parameters entered correctly then all was fine.

I agree that these modules are not needed for building great sites with Processwire and do not need to be a part of the core and I would be willing to purchase them if it helps my productivity and workflow and at the same time supports processwire. Though there seems sometimes to be a thin line between what could be added to the core and what could be a paid module. There are some cms and ecommerce systems out there with out mentioning any names that do seem to go over the top whereby every new feature or improvement is added as a paid module / add-on. I hope this won't become the case with Processwire. It could be said that some new features / modules might bring more benefit and funds being part of the core rather than paid modules though this might seem counter intuitive to start with as far as bringing in funds. The reasoning behind this is that the more versatile and great Processwire becomes at the core then the more popular it will become with more people adopting processwire and in turn purchasing more modules like FormBuilder and ProCach and hopefully many more useful modules in the future which could actually create more sales in the long run of those modules hence increased funds. Theoretical of course I have to say that this new module to me seems to be an added feature and improvement to the flexible workings of processwire that attracted me in the first place so personally I would have loved to see it as part of the core with the added benefit of attracting newbies. Of course I am not a newbie now (but still very new compared to others here) and already sold on Processwire and love it more each day and will more than likely be purchasing these plugins in the future and have no problem with that but I do hope that sometime in the future as new paid modules are developed that modules likes these might be moved to the core to help give processwire the status it deserves. Anyway the modules look great and can't wait to see the next screen cast of the other modules.

Hi I seem to have come across some strange behaviour with the Datetime field. Depending which options I choose on field settings under Input, the page where the field is added to the template acts incorrectly. I have found the following happens on the pages with the Datetime field. 1. Date Picker Year Range is set & Date/time picker on button click - then no calender pops up on click on page 2. Date Picker Year Range is set & Date/time picker on field focus - No Calender pops up on field focus on page 3. Date Picker Year Range is set & Inline date picker always visible (no time picker) - No calender appears and the tabs for the page dissapear. Seems the list visibility is set to Hidden for the page edit tabs. Has anyone else experienced this?

ha ha. That vid is a great comparison.

I am continuously bombarded with Wordpress this and Wordpress that, from all directions on how it is the best cms and the go to cms out there. It is starting to get a little silly. I can hardly read an article or visit a page without the mention of the holiness of Wordpress. It seems to have become some sort of mantra. Of course i don't agree. But it got me thinking. Are they all wrong? Are there any circumstances or reasons that anyone would use Wordpress over Processwire for a particular project?

I can understand adonnis point of view for someone that is new to Processwire but once you come to appreciate what Processwire offers then paying a one off fee for something like form builder (which I hope to purchase soon) and at the same time supporting Ryan and the Processwire development seems like a bargain to me considering the hours it takes. The only concern I would have is if possible improvements to processwire often or only start to become paid modules instead of something that could be made a part of or an improvement to the processwire core.

That post was a while ago now. Maybe things has changed a bit. Just scanned the licence quickly and there seems to be a slight change if i am correct Before as shown in the old post: The OEM License is limited to one year from the date of purchase. Now on Redactor Licence: Support for the holders of the OEM License is limited to one year from the date of purchase. The OEM License: Holders of the OEM License may use the Software as if they had the Professional license. In addition, OEM License holders are allowed to sell or otherwise distribute the Software to the developers and not only to the end users. The OEM license allows license holder’s clients to develop their own products based on or containing Software. The OEM License holder’s clients do not have to obtain their own Professional or OEM license. The OEM License holders are allowed to integrate the Software with open source products. However, neither license holder nor license holder’s clients can sell Redactor as a sole product (with or without modification); License holder and license holder’s clients should use it fairly; Imperavi LLC still holds all the copyrights for Software code, Software code does not become open source, and we solely determine "fair use" of the Software. Support for the holders of the OEM License is limited to one year from the date of purchase.

Any news on a processwire book? Anyone still working on it?

I agree. This is definitely something that can be improved. Wordpress has also made further improvements to TinyMCE in latest wordpress 3.9.
