http://www.adminer.org/ is a small php file to manage SQL databases

I received this on Smashing Magazine newsletter and decided to try it because of all those PhpMyadmin securiy concerns. It's very easy to use, so i decided to install it on the server, inside my PW install. I droped the PHP file on the templates folder, created a new template, and a page with this template without Guest access. Works great! And I have two layers of security, the PW admin login, and the DB login.

Maybe you could make a adminer based module so you could have a "database" link in "setup"

Would be maybe more elegant like you say, but i already have a link in the page view. For now I will keep it like this

Thanks for the info on Adminer. Looks interesting. I tried SQL Buddy recently too, and really loved the simplicity of it.

I like to use free tool Valentina Studio valentina-db.com/en/valentina-studio-overview  which I think is far superior to other tools.

MarcC, thanks a lot for the link to SQL Buddy! I already knew about Adminer and used it sometimes, but SQL Buddy looks much more appealing and is very quick and easy to use, too.

I think both of them would make a really nice backend module.

Old thread I know. I tried to use Adminer (both as a template file and a process module)  but all I get is as shown below; no text links shown, just some numbers I don't understand  . Google doesn't help, except for one answered question about the same problem on their forums. Was wondering if any of you has encountered this problem? Thanks.

Disregard this thread. I'm using adminer outside the admin now. They must have changed something in the code that made this trick not work anymore. Still prefer it to phpMyAdmin, though.

So is your installation web accessible to everyone then? I'd like to avoid that. I looked for alternatives but SQL buddy has been discontinued for a while and as for http://mywebsql.net/ , it has a class Session that collides with ProcessWire's . I think I will just use a locally installed MySQL client that can access a remote database via SSH.

Adminer is a nifty small tool, still use it every now and then. It is so small in size that you can simply drag and drop it on your server when you need it and delete it after your database session.

Thanks guys. In the end I went with Horst's suggestion, HeidiSQL. This is installed on my PC and I'm connected securely to my remote server via an SSH tunnel. OK, next, how to mount my server locally with write access so I can edit my files locally using my favourite text editor

@MuchDev, yeah, thanks. I've tried it for the last couple of hours and it would intermittently hang. I am now using SFTP where I am the owner of the files in public_html. I can edit remote files using my local ST3. So, it's all sorted, thanks.

Anybody knows why adminer.org is blocked by F-Secure?

Submitted the page, but still blocked a week later. 

Seems to be infected with malware.
