ProcessWire 3.0.274 – Core updates

ProcessWire adds SQLite and PostgreSQL support. This week on the dev branch (3.0.274) you can now install and run ProcessWire on SQLite or PostgreSQL, in addition to MySQL. Read more in this blog post:

Thanks for all the work on this. This could be an absolute game changer, and extends the ProcessWire philosophy of letting you choose how you want to do things rather than forcing a particular way on you.

The benchmarks are interesting, and I think support for all three flavours of SQL is a good idea, as each may have their ideal use cases.

Down the track, I'd be interested to know what the benchmarks would be like if there were no translation layer, but already the gains in performance are significant, and any losses are small, so the translation code must be pretty efficient already.

If I read table correctly, that PostgreSQL is the overall better choice for performance. When it losed a metric to SQLite, it is not as bad as MySQL. 🤔

And also my favorite, that also got a side note in the blog post: The new ProcessExportProfile version, who final seems to allow role export:

Allow profiles to export permissions, roles, users, passwords, and associated file assets while preserving the authentication salt and saved export choices

It exports the roles in the past, but not set up with the right permission. So I read that commit, that is now an optional choice. Yeah!
