Error loading GitHub branches

I'm still wrestling with the upgrade troubles on OVH.com hosting. I manually upgraded to PW 3.0.98 and Upgrade module 0.0.7. Checking upgrades gives me an "Error loading GitHub branches - https://api.github.com/repos/processwire/processwire/branches - HTTP error(s): 2: fsockopen(): SSL operation failed with code 1. OpenSSL Error messages: error:1407742E:SSL routines:SSL23_GET_SERVER_HELLO:tlsv1 alert protocol version, 2: fsockopen(): Failed to enable crypto, 2: fsockopen(): unable to connect to ssl://api.github.com:443 (Unknown error) - Check that HTTP requests are not blocked by your server.".

Upgrading or installing other modules doesn't work either. I know it probably has to do with some provider setting on OVH.com, but I've tried several things mentioned in the ProcessWireUpgrade support forum, all to no avail. Server is configured to use PHP 7.0. If anyone here is also on OVH.com and knows a solution I'd be most happy to hear about it.

I'm having this same error. I've exported an existing live site and recreated it locally with PW 3.0.116 to do some experimenting, but on the upgrades page I get this error, and the site doesn't display images correctly. Any help would be much appreciated.

On Mac? This is due to OpenSSL changes by Apple.

Ah. Bugger. Yes, I'm on a Mac. I'll have to look into that then. Any ideas how to (if it can be?) resolve it?

I tried but not luck.

I finally solved the problem by setting PHP 7.0 from 'development' to 'production', it had nothing to do with my Mac.

same trouble with MAMP / MAC + PHP 7.3..... reverting to 7.2 solved it

No joy for me on any version of PHP (7.2.1, 7.1.31, 7.0.33 or previous)

 I'll reboot, clear caches and try again tomorrow. Interestingly I also cannot download any new versions of PHP

I'm having the same problem again. PW 3.098 PHP 7.2.19 (or other versions) with OVH hosting.

At the root of the server is this .ovhconfig file:

app.engine=php
app.engine.version=7.2
http.firewall=none
environment=production
container.image=stable

Working for me now with no changes other than a restart of Mamp Pro. Might be unrelated.

And a day later working here as well. Must be some interstellar problem....

And three days later the exact same configuration but now PW 3.0.123 gives an error once again.
