I have a template that includes an image field that supports multiple images. The images uploaded to this field include a description field. If one of these images is embedded into a textarea field (i.e. Body), should the image description will be inserted into the image's alt attribute when embedding the image? I always assumed that it would, but there is a separate option to add an alt attribute when inserting the image. Is the purpose of the description field purely for use with the API and unnecessary for images that are intended to be embedded within a textarea field? I guess I need clarification as to how this works. Either something changed, or I never understood the differences between the image description and the alt attribute as it is used in ProcessWire. I'm currently using ProcessWire 3.0.15.

Hey all, I am trying to prevent the display of descriptions for images in default language while user browses site with alternative language. In a gallery my goal would be to display the same images, and hide the description that I am using as captions. As a hack I could decide based on tags, but this causes extra workload for the editors of the site, and seems less robust than a built in query. Any hints are highly appreciated.

I have a page configured with a repeater, inside the repeater there is a input file with description. I havent updated the website content in a while but today when I tried to add a new file, the file upload worked correctly but I can't insert a description in the file. Also the previously created instances have the correct description but I can't update them. I added a attachment of the page edit view for better understaning. Also the logs don't show any errors.

Hi there I have made a basic photogallery on the website ( http://olikehrli.ch/galerie/ ) I created with processwire ( foreach loop ), but there are only photos and captions for fancybox. What I need to do is a product photo gallery with descriptions ( attached images ) and with page numbers. I looked into all the tutorials, but I guess I need a push. Can anybody please point me in the right direction with the php? I am learning php on youtube, but it's not processwire specific 8 ( if there is such a thing ), so I am still quite in the dark. I guess there isn't a ton of code to write, but I am a bit overwhelmed. Any help would very much appreciated. Thanks a lot Jakob

Hi, wow, this is weird: I am running two sites with one ProcessWire installation. Both are using VersionControl module. I moved both sites to another webserver right after installing VersionControl. On site #1 ...sometimes (!) file upload is not possible (the pink status bar gets stuck at 100 %) already uploaded files (before moving to the new server) cannot be deleted file descriptions cannot be changed no error messages are given, not even in debug mode While on site #2 ...everything's fine: uploading, deleting, changing the description... I read Douglas' post on a glitch in dev 2.5.19, but I'm using the regular 2.5(.0). nghi's post on a similar problem describes pretty much what I'm experiencing here, but if there was something wrong in the suhosin.ini, site #2 would encounter the very same problem. If I use VersionControl to set the file field back to an earlier version where the file was not uploaded yet, the file disappears and is deleted from /assets/file/[page-id]/. Same vice-versa when setting to a version before a file was deleted: It is recreated on the page and in the filesystem. Permissions are -rw-rw-rw- for all files. Any ideas? Sarah

Hello again. I have a silly problem. I feel a bit ashamed, really, but I have been searching for some time now, and I can't seem to find the issue. I have a simple site (first one I made with PW, actually), with a "file" field on a "news" template/page. So the webmaster can add a downloadable file to his news. It works fine, actually, but the field description, which should appear on the page, doesnt show up for guests. It does, as long as I am connected as an admin. But guest users (visitors) can't see it. No text is rendered. (the link itself is working.) I get the same result on local and distant site. I dont get it. Have I missed a permission setting or something ? The code for rendering the link is as follow : When connected as an admin, this outputs, for example, the following code : However, for a guest, the result is : Whatever I do. In the DB, the description is stored as : I have probably missed a simple setting somewhere about permissions. But I can't seem to find it. Maybe I'm just slow-brained today... Help ? Please ?

Hello there. Since this is my first post in these forums: Thank you Ryan for ProcessWire and thanks to everyone that is supporting him or other users. I'm having a strange problem using $image->description. When I'm logged in as the default user I registered during install everything's working as expected. $image->description returns the string provided in the backend. Anyways if not logged in, an empty string will be returned resulting in <img src="url-is-still-working" alt="">. I don't really know whats going on. Might be a bug? Here's some code: $slides = ''; foreach ( $page->slideshow_images as $image ) { $slides .= '<li><img src="' . $image->url . '" alt="' . $image->description . '"></li>'; } I'm running ProcessWire 2.5.3.

Hello, I'm trying to add a custom description to my formfield $serverField = $modules->get("InputfieldText"); $serverField->label = "Server Name"; $serverField->attr("id+name","servername"); $serverField->attr("value",$prefillServer); $serverField->attr("class","form-control"); $serverField->description("description","Desc");// need right syntax here. Or is the method missing $serverForm->append($serverField); I get an error: Method InputfieldText::description does not exist I looked at InputfieldText.module and there is no method for adding a description. Shouldn't there be one? Couldn't find anything in the API cheatsheet that would let me do that. How would I then go about adding a description to a form field?

Hey, guys. I'm having some difficulty in outputting an image description as alt attribute. I created a field called featured_image. Using foreach I list all articles that use a certain template. I can display the image normally using: $article->featured_image $article->featured_image->url, works just fine. But when i use $article->featured_image->description nothing happens =( I'm just learning php and have no idea what am I doing wrong. Any help? Thank you.

Hi, Having an odd issue with image fields where there seems image fields have not got the option to add descriptions in or trash the image. See the screengrab below: It seems to be happening on fields with one image, if I add multiple images I get the little icon to change it to expanded view and am able there to trash images and add descriptions. Does anyone know what might be causing this? I can see for a very brief moment a flash of the description box on page load but it then gets hidden.

Hello. I'm starting a new project on Processwire 2.4. I'm experiencing some funky behavior, as follows: 1. I add a new custom field and save it. 2. Try to edit the field, and the "description" attribute is grayed out, and I can't add a description. I'm experiencing it with all field types. Has anyone else experienced this? I did some futzing around with the admin theme, trying to use the new "themes as modules" method, and I'm wondering if I screwed something up or if it is an actual bug in 2.4 A screenshot is below. This is after saving the field, and opening it up to edit. Thanks for any help, Will

Hello. I want implement image "likes" system. I want to use built-in description field to store values (because client needs opportunity to change values by himself). I have one problem - how change image description with ajax request? For example, I send request via jQuery to file likes.php <php include "./index.php"; $gal_page = $wire->pages->get(1188); //I don't know how can I pass image id or something similar and then select this image $image_id = $wire->input->get("img_id"); //set OF false $gal_page->of(false); //I know that there isn't such method, just for example $gal_page->images->eq($image_id)->description = "34512"; $gal_page->save(); ?> As you see from code comments, my main problem is saving image id or something else and finding image by this info. Have you any ideas, how can I implement this?

Does anyone know if it's possible to configure the images field to require description text? A fallback would be to write an onsubmit handler in javascript for the admin - but if it's possible to enforce at the configuration level, that seems like a much cleaner solution. EDIT: the core image field is already in heavy use. If possible, I'd like to modify existing instances rather than create a custom field.

At some point with all of my projects, the client will ask for an image to be replaced. But the image description rarely needs to be updated when the image is replaced. (For example, the client may wish for the image to be cropped in a different way.) Unfortunately, when replacing an image in PW, the description is deleted. If the client isn't aware that it will be deleted, it leads to frustrated clients and missing data. And if a large number of images need to be replaced, it is cumbersome to copy the description and paste it back into the field when the image is replaced. In a future version of PW, I've love to see the description remain untouched when an image is replaced.
