Forum Upgrade

Hi folks

Anyone who's tried logging in for the past hour or so will have seen a message saying we were upgrading the forums.

Unfortunately everything that could go wrong did go wrong, but I've put everything back to how it was now and you can discuss ProcessWire once again

For those that are interested, what worked fine on my local copy simply failed to work when I tried merging it with the liver version here - something to do with the merging routines in the new version of the forum software and/or something I've overlooked.

I'll re-visit it at a later date and, having learned my lesson, I'll try and get it working in a sub-forum on the live site before taking the forums offline again.

Ah, you should have tried adding bacon. It often helps with liver.

Hi folks - I've upgraded the software successfully this time and applied the new theme to match the new version of the site.

I've noticed one or two minor tweaks since doing this so I'll be making some minor adjustments this evening, but other than that it should be fine.

Upgrading forums always reminds me of servicing my first car when I was a teen - I always ended up with more screws than I seem to have places to put them. I nearly blew up the Mark II Escort GT I had. (1300cc of raw lettuce leaf)

So, I will be listening out to see if the forum starts rattling or pinking or something. The timing always seems to out a little when you first restart it .....!

I had to click "Change theme" and choose "ProcessWire v2 (import)" to see the new styling (which is awesome!),

I think that might be because you're a moderator but I'm not sure. I'm removing access to the old one so it should move any stragglers over to the new one automatically.

I'm not a moderator and had to do the same as Antti. And yeah, it's great!!

Bah, ran an old-fashioned SQL query in phpMyAdmin and fixed it for the remaining members. Don't know why it didn't update you all automatically but there we are.

I can't see the editor anymore after deleting cache and also there's an error in the console with processwire theme 2. I had to switch to mobile to post this.

Erm... you click into the reply box and the editor appears, no?

Also, what browser are you using to see the error? I'm in Firefox (latest) and honestly can't see any more errors.

There's only a white area where the editor should be. Chrome OSX.

Well that is a bit annoying. I've got another forum locally that doesn't give this error so I should hopefully just be able to copy and paste some JS files and fix that.

Easy fix - any more?

Sounds like IP.Board doesn't make their upgrades very easy. Thanks for your time and expertise in getting us up to date. I'm really liking the new look.

One minor point I wanted to mention is that the edges of the masthead are flush on either side of the screen when they should be padded at least 10-15 pixels or so like the rest of the interface. Screenshot attached.

No they don't, but minor updates usually result in smaller template edits so it's just a bit of a hassle the first time you create a template - maybe when I win the lottery I'll pay Antti to build on his PW discussions module for a year solid

Nice work, it looks great!

One thing: I miss the way the admin section in the top right worked, with either clicking or hovering to see notifications and see content I follow, and all those other things up top. It's no longer as intuitive as it used to be to see the content I follow. I'm using Chrome. Actually, I've been clicking around and can't find the Content I Follow section anymore... Am I just missing something?

Was also going to note the padding but you moved really fast with that one! It looks amazing! Nice work. I love the new site design.

Tina - not sure which links you mean? They should all be up top if we're talking the links in the light-blue section, or other links are at the very top on the dark bar above that. I just checked the old template against the new one and don't see any missing links.

At least indenting seems to work. What is infuriating though is that the new code button does indent stuff fine, but it's hard to see what's code and what isn't when you go to edit a post.

Still, I just checked and you can add to code when editing a post and it seems fine - you just have to realise that the stuff in Courier font is code.

It's like they changed the system so it works, but at the same time gave more margin for error
