MatthewSchenker
Greetings, Is it just me, or did Microsoft just kick Apple's ass today? Thanks, Matthew
Mike Rockett
I think that was indeed the intention. Surface Book looks cool, but it's name is obviously designed to target MacBook directly. As for the flagship phones, I think they're excellent in terms of features, but the design could have been much better. We'll just have to see how things pan out over the next few weeks - high adoption rates = Apple's butt kicked.
elabx
I truly looks like a nice computer! The Surface screens are some of the best I have seen, this computer has really made me think about maybe moving away from Mac/OS X. The touch screen and stylus is a great plus for me at least. But I´m not really sure to trust my OS happiness to Windows again.
MatthewSchenker
Greetings, I switched my main workstation to OS X back in the dark days of Vista. But I never really took to the Apple ecosystem. I'm happy to see Microsoft mounting a challenge. Thanks, Matthew
apeisa
I skipped millenium and vista, now happily using win 10 at home and win 7 at work. Both are excellent systems! I feel so lost when I have to try helping my mom to use her macbook air (good salesman told it is easier than windows...). I have never googled so much in so big frustration... Things just don't work

rick
... But I´m not really sure to trust my OS happiness to Windows again. Noooooo! Do not walk into the light. It is a trick! I walked away from winblows in '03 and never looked back. Now I sleep well too.
SiNNuT
I'm not gonna be spending this kind of money but dang, the Surface Book seems like a fine piece of equipment!
MuchDev
I'm not gonna be spending this kind of money but dang, the Surface Book seems like a fine piece of equipment! I'm with you. That bendy hinge is awesome, but 1500 on a touchscreen tablet laptop... I'll buy a cheap laptop and a kick but dev machine and hold on to my android tablet a little longer . I feel so lost when I have to try helping my mom to use her macbook air (good salesman told it is easier than windows...). I have never googled so much in so big frustration... Things just don't work I know what you mean man, I support a network of macs, nothing maddening there trying to keep everything all secure and backed up. teppo
Is it just me, or did Microsoft just kick Apple's ass today? It's clearly not just you, but.. nope, they didn't On a (slightly) more serious note, I have to say that after a few years with OS X I would find it very difficult to switch back to Windows. OS X has a bunch of neat features (such as the Spotlight search, which in my case has literally eliminated the need to touch menu items or Finder ever again), but a much bigger benefit is that it's Unix-like. If I need to automate a task or two, can't figure out how to do this or that via the GUI, or just want to get things done without swinging a goddamn plastic rodent all over, I can always just step into the soothing darkness of the console and get shit done. OS X is the next best thing after Linux, and since Linux still doesn't have most of the apps I need, it's the best thing at the moment. The new Surface Book does seem like a splendid machine, of course. Compared to a MacBook Air it looks a bit clunky, but from a strictly technical point of view it does seem quite awesome. If I actually had to get a Windows laptop, this just might be it
LostKobrakai
…but a much bigger benefit is that it's Unix-like. That's also my point of view. One can simply install things with homebrew, where you'd need to fiddle around for days on windows. But it's crazy to see how hardware alone doesn't make any cut anymore. It's just software and workflow, which determines what's better for a person.
adrian
If it wasn't for mobile app development I probably never would have made the switch to Mac, but now that I have, I probably won't go back, just because of the UNIX base and also because I am now comfortable with the toolset I am working with. That doesn't mean I am thrilled by Macs - in my mind they are just a different set of problems
