I want to give piwik analytics a try. Does anyone have both experience with google analytics and piwik analytics ? Is one better than the other in performance and tracking ? Is it ok to extract the piwik zipfile to public_html/analytics/piwik/ ? Where can I best put the piwik java script tracking code in pw ? What a bummer, I just uploaded the latest piwik 2.0.2 - setup a database - start piwik and get the following error message: Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING, expecting T_CONSTANT_ENCAPSED_STRING or '(' in /home/user/public_html/analytics/piwik/index.php on line 11 Found that you need at least PHP 5.3.2

Ok thanks Soma, going to try to reproduce that, my first steps in a pw web shop.

Thanks for those 2 links. About bag-shop.ch, if I click on details for a bag, a new web page comes up with a bigger picture and more information. Is that all done with fields, so a field for each details of a bag ?

Can anyone show me a few web shops made with processwire ? Is doing seo for a web shop in any way different ?

@ Craig A Rodway, yes that's the post I remembered, saved it this time.

I definitely agree on that one to keep good quality of modules. For pw beginners and clients there has to be an editor out of the box. I think tinymce as it is included now is a good choice for pw beginners and clients. I don't like the idea of extending the core just to have ckeditor, inline editing or whatever extra wysiwg. The power of pw is it's low level abstraction architecture (api) and therefore anyone can do whatever you want with pw. If somebody needs another editor or inline editing or whatever it should be done either through the api or as a module.

I remember this was addressed before some time ago in the forum. Unfortunately I can't remember the url of the post anymore. I also remember you can configure the number of pages in pagination.

Macrura => something like this ? https://github.com/thenbrent/paypal-digital-goods I am also digging inside open source zen-cart to see if I can find any php classes or scripts that can be ported to processwire. With open source that is legal isn't it ? http://www.zen-cart.com/showthread.php?199322-Roadmap-for-v1-5-and-beyond

Foxycart doesn't allow self hosted. Also in my case I found my very first customer asking me to setup a webshop, so => time is very important! Not using processwire but Prestashop is for me the fastest solution in my case now, but I will keep an eye on processwire using it for a possible second webshop.

Thank you very - very much for posting this. It remembers me why I am here. Was once hooked on modx EVO but it ended with the road modx took. Since there are a lot of evo (revo) refugees here your post will be most appreciated, for others the comparing you did gives much information for them too. http://processwire.com/talk/topic/2850-processwire-for-designers/page-2#entry30349

Congratulations, you found a diamond in a cms heap. You will find that out your self the more you work with it. You can modify it in any way you want with the API of processwire. You can use any css framework to make responsive websites, like cube, foundation, etc. PW comes with tinymce. You can already do all the things you need with that. You can activate extra functions in tinymce inside the PW configuration like: fontsize, fonttype, fontcolor, background color, charmap, etc. etc But using css for that is preferred to keep your design clean and portable. Study the API of processwire, you are going to need that first. Then learn basic php things like foreach, do-while that you are going to need together with the API. The learning curve is only to become familiar with how pw works. PW works different from other cms'es because pw has no cms rules, no cms walls. PW adapts to the designer and coder, not the other way around like almost all other cms'es out there. Go through the PW tutorials until you get that "aha that's how pw works" moment and then you can go on for your self, you don't want to stop anymore also because pw is that addictive http://processwire.com/talk/topic/4173-grouped-forum-posts-links-articles-tutorials-code-snippets/

Pete how you put it is I think how it is and I have to deal with that somehow. The right tool for the right job and so I better look for an ecommerce webshop. Try a few of them, shopify, prestashop, volusion, magento, opencart. Maybe some people here have already experience with one of these.

Diogo, by the time I finish building a pro shop module with the same level of quality as something like prestashop, it will be 2015. I both don't have the time and the coding skills to come up with something like that. What I, and others here, need is a payed good module solution. All I was trying to say is that money is not only made with building and maintaining websites but also more and more with webshops. We all love processwire but there is simply a need for a good quality shop module. Especially in bad economy times where the economy on the internet is growing better and better. I don't know but maybe nobody has the time here to code it and it will not come for a long time. Maybe some people here can post how they run a webshop without processwire ?

A real good processwire shop should have been there already. Come on, we all have seen business growing on the internet year after year and it is growing ever since. The money is on the internet, you know that and I know that. How many of us have to use prestashop or ecommerce or another webshop package because there is no shop module for processwire with the same level. Right now I found a client who wants me to set up a webshop and I feel strange that I can not use processwire for it. I know that Apeisa made a shop module but it is not the same level as prestashop or ecommerce. This is not criticism but this is what is needed these days. I am sure nobody will mind paying for a good pw shop as every year it is wanted more and more to make money on the internet.

Maybe one of them should go through the skyscrapers tuto there isn't much of them on the net besides this http://www.bizapedia.com/ca/SVM-LINUX-LLC.html

For 2000 euro you can setup 2 good servers, one on-line and a second one running parallel off-line, each with 2 raid harddisks, 2 connected backup harddisks and 2 disconnected nightly backup harddisks in a safe (or a tapestreamer). Put an admin to work that maintains the network, the users and the servers. A cloud service can never beat having 24 hours LOCAL service done by an admin, having remote access from home and a car that takes him to the servers and the network in, let's say, half an hour. Depends how far the admin lives from the company. In case of a soho company there is usually a manager who is a coder and admin at the same time. Anyway Servers are not anymore what they used to be, a big tower with dusty fans placed in it's own cooled room. Fanless servers who need no special room (except for security reasons) and with almost no maintenance needs: http://www.andersdx.com/products/mini-box-computers/hardware/microsvr.aspx

Had a good vacation ? Got your batteries charged now for a while. Ok, meanwhile processwire still going strong, found a new job and upgraded my php skills and oh yes 2 pw forces joined each other in Milktop. Good to have you back Ryan.

Good point. There is too much hype going on in cloud world. Why would I trust my hard work and client data to a cloud and depend on my internet connection at my home ? Accessing a cloud business through a single Internet connection, that connection becomes a key point of vulnerability. Should it fail, any applications that depend on the cloud will be unavailable. Why would clients store data that they are not comfortable with having in a country with questionable laws ? Think about patriot act and the nsa. Cloud-based makes it difficult to get customer service promptly – or at all. Sending an email and waiting for help within 24 or more hours ? What are you going to do when you have to move all your data to another cloud service ? Who is going to move your gigs of data to another cloud when your first cloud service packed up ? Vendor lock-ins are around the corner. The list goes on but I keep it with this to think about.

I have no experience with pw and cloud9 ide but maybe this can help: http://support.cloud9ide.com/home
