How would I create a REST API service with ProcessWire?

Hi all. Does anyone have any experience with creating a REST API for ProcessWire? Would this be feasible?

I briefly looked into the PHP to JSON library used by the WordPress JSON API plugin. Is that the right approach to take with ProcessWire or would you recommend another approach?
