A different way of using templates / delegate approach
onjegolders replied to Soma's topic in API & Templates
I think I agree with Ryan on this thread. My approach would be to encourage newcomers (to PHP) to start by breaking thing up in the simpler default way. The need for more complex approaches comes later and is more interesting for those with a more solid foundation in programming. -
Definitely start modularising things by "including" various files/snippets. It's a good and pretty easy habit to get into. From then on can start looking at modules/delegate approaches.

Reduced image quality of images added to image fields

Thanks Horst, your commit works great for 5.5 Dazzy, try Horst's commit and you can keep 5.5. -
Just following up, I used the code from Horst's commit and it is now working with our version of PHP 5.5. Thanks both
-
Thanks Adrian, looks like it could be the same issue although we're using AMPPS on Mac. I'll follow it up, cheers

Hey guys, having a few issues today uploading images in the admin (2.4) and the thumbnails are coming back blurred. These images aren't being upscaled. Very strange, not had this issue before. GD appears to be installed fine. Anyone had anything similar recently? Cheers,

Hi Totoff, I personally prefer not to download content from the AppStore where possible. I nearly always do so from the developer's website though I agree the AppStore ID system can be annoying.
-
That looks really cool Not sure how it would work payments wise though. Monthly cost per project so would have to pass onto the client.
-
I like the idea but for now there's not a great deal of difference between including all their code and including code elsewhere. If it were native, that would be cool...

Hi Nico, hope you're good The JS dialog to confirm delete seems to no longer be there. Was that a conscious decision or perhaps an overwrite? Cheers.

You using Atom yet on your new machine Diogo?

PW, MAMP, ST and my Mac (and my girlfriend in case she's reading )

Thanks Diogo Though not sure I want to even contemplate leaving ST

Just picking this up as I've been brushing up on a bit of Ruby and I still can't quite get my head around just how hard it is to get up and running in it. Setting up a decent local environment with Ruby or ROR just puts me off every time. Too many things to figure out/configure. Now I'm sure if I had the time and no alternative (which I do with PHP) I'd figure it out but as it stands it's just too much to put me off. Processwire is clearly a better tool for most of us when it comes to building websites but I've always been attracted by the syntax of Ruby.

Thanks Dazzy, will check it out.

Hi Freestone, Welcome to the forum. Apologies for not going into detail here but just to say as someone who has used Drupal, your experience in PW will be akin to sitting outside on a warm summer's day with your feet up and listening to the birds sing. Drupal does have advantages when taking on a very complex authoring system but other than that (in my eyes) styling templates alone is enough to make me want to gouge my eyeballs out. Most things here seem pretty straightforward in PW (almost anything is achievable with PHP) and we'd be happy to give you a guiding hand.

Welcome Taqtaq, really nice site. I like the typography very much. If I had one small comment, it would be that the top area is rather sparse. Is there perhaps a phone number/email address or button that could appear there?

Hi Vineet, I think you need to drop the { }

I think it's probably the most important rule there is!

if ($page->parent->id == "1016") { } EDIT: You may not need the "" there. also if ($page->parent->title == "Notti") { echo... }

Thanks Totoff, so do you make lots of use FW's hotspot tool? Is there an "app" for all that Joss? (Not the stripper part, there are plenty of those already...) Been taking a look at Sketch, it's a really nice tool. A very good alternative to FW for me. Perhaps without some of FW's stronger tools (hotspot, layers...) but also without the Adobe "clunk/junk"

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'd be interesting in hearing your views on the second stage of the process - presenting concepts/designs to the client and getting feedback. We're deliberating trying InVision http://www.invisionapp.com which neatly packages the designs and integrates comments and perhaps allows for a more agile, speedier iterative process. What are your experiences? Do you still work with emailing PDFs? Or are you using a specific piece of software. We've had a fair amount of success presenting documented PDFs where we show the designs in context but still feel it's perhaps not the most dynamic way of presenting our work and getting and incorporating feedback.

Fireworks? I really love Illustrator also but it's funny how little FW gets talked about seeing as it is (was) their main tool for the task.
