Hello! That’s me and that’s MediaHub I’m pointing vaguely to. 🙂

So, it looks like another promising module has entered the Bermuda Triangle.

Despite lots of initial energy and exciting updates, we now have silence and a little head scratching. I sincerely hope the developer is OK if the reasons for their disappearance is personal.

But It did remind me of an insight someone shared with me recently and specifically in relation to MediaHub (which is not going away).

He said people and agencies have been burned before with modules, and there is a reluctance to use something that could be abandoned.

Understandably, that experience has made them cautious about embracing anything new. If an agencey or client site depends on a module, could it end up with no development, no support, no documentation and worse still, no security patches. Again, I'm not being judgemental. Life can take over.

But what I did want to say is that MediaHub and I (touches wood) have no plans to enter the Bermuda Triangle of module development. In case that was a barrier to you. It's in active development. I'm supporting customers, working on improvements and listening to people.

Do I ship updates as often as I'd like, or spend as much time on it as I'd like? Of course not. And if anything were to happen that meant I could no longer be part of the community or do the job I love, the project would be handed over to one or more trusted developers.

So, finally, to the point: our work is too important to me to disappear with no answers. I can't guarantee or see the future, but MediaHub is very much alive. I've been self employed and doing this for probably 26 or 27 years. I'm hoping to be doing this for a good few more at least. If you want to come along with me and MediaHub for some of those years, we would very much like to help you and your clients' sites with media and asset management.

So hit me up, DM me or tell me here. What would you need to see to feel confident trying it?

Cheers,

Peter

PS On a side note, MediaHub is a monster of a project. A much much larger and more complicated Module than I ever imagined. When I somewhat naively started putting it together, I had no idea how many aspects of ProcessWire functionality it would have to work with. Stuff I hadn't even considered. That's probably another whole essay, but suffice to say, I've put far too much personal time, professional time, and real money, into it to not continue. If that helps close your doubts, great.
