This is great news. Congratulations Ryan on a superb CMS. I personally use PW on most of my projects. The CMSCritic award nominations are now open for 2013. PW will get my vote this year. Last year it won the Critic's Award, let's try and get the People's Choice Award as well this year. Community - please provide your support, Now! P.S. @CMSCRITIC (Mike) Disqus is not loading on the nominations page for some reason? Edit: I thought this would be better placed in the News section, but I cannot start a post there!!

Nice site. Just one thing, I was surprised at the lack of product images on the single product pages (SSP) and the select finish options do not have images. I might be wrong but for me it's like walking into a shop and reading the label but not seeing the product.

Thanks Ryan. I went for the if() option. I wonder if it would be useful to have the search term highlighted in the results?

Regarding the search function in the blog profile. How can I extend it to pages as well as blog posts. I tried changing search.php from // Search the title, body fields for our query text. $posts = $pages->find("template=post, title|body%=$q, limit=10"); to // Search the title, body fields for our query text. $posts = $pages->find("template=post|basic-page, title|body%=$q, limit=10"); but that breaks line 15 of post.php $numComments = $page->comments->count();

Yes, I upgraded to ver 2.3 and that solved it. Thanks.

Re: Above post. After uploading the Exported profile to live server, this error mssg has reappeared. Error Call to undefined method FieldtypeComments::findComments() (line 45 of /home/website/public_html/site/templates/blog.inc). Any ideas why this is happening.

Just a selection. A work in progress

I usually listen to this, ok it gets a bit repetitive as the month goes on, but its nice to hear some of the tunes I like again. http://www.dandelionradio.com/ (+1 for John Peel)

I wonder if you can help with this error mssg I'm getting. I installed the basic blog profile on 19th March on localhost and have just gone back to it to start some serious work on it but am getting the following error: xxxxx/tools/widgets/recent-comments/ Error Call to undefined method FieldtypeComments::findComments() (line 45 of C:\xampp\htdocs\processwireBlogTest\site\templates\blog.inc). I checked the error log and it has been happening since the install date. Edit: Just found that the links to the comment page /comments/ are giving a HTT P500 server error Edit 20/04/2013: Downloaded latest version. Problem Solved

Also, don't be afraid to try new things. Sometimes one thing leads to another. As an example; the reason I found Processwire is that I wanted to give my clients an easy way to manage their website content, but it came with added bonuses. Some of the functionality I have added to sites would not have been possible (easily) for me without PW. I completed a basic site for someone last year, since then I have added a products/shopping area and now am working on producing a PDF brochure for their products, all extra income you see. I have a number of my own websites, some of which being the affiliate one I mentioned earlier, a web hosting one integrated with WHMCS and customised/branded Cpanel with additional added sections for upselling other products. So I can offer a complete service (domain name registration, hosting, website, emails etc). When my workload is a bit on the light side, I offer a free website (limited number of pages) in exchange for a minimum 12 month hosting contract. But I also do these freebies in PW so the client has the ability to add more pages themselves. I made a community website for free. I'm still paying for the hosting etc, but the plan is to attract local businesses to sponsor the site to cover costs and any additional revenue goes back into the community council funds. Just some more ideas to think about I hope it helps?

Countdown timer per user using $session
NooseLadder replied to NooseLadder's topic in General Support
Thanks Ryan and Martijn. @DaveP Thanks for the tip on persistent cookies. I have come up with a basic process for a countdown timer and would like some feedback please. Now this uses cookies and I understand the risk of users clearing cookies, cookies disabled etc. A login to capture email would be ideal but for the offer I am working on it may put people off having to login. Overview Use cookies to set a countdown timer in JS for a set time when the user first visits the page. An expiry date will be set. If the user returns before the expiry date the timer is set to the time remaining for that user. If the user returns after the expiry date they are redirected to an expired page. Two cookies are set at the same time; The first holds the expiry date of the timer as it's value, the second holds an expiry date further in the future than the first one. I'll call the timer cookie 'countdown' and the other one 'itsgone'. If both cookies already set { // Use 'countdown' value = expiry to calculate time remaining // Update timer via JS // Display timer page } If 'itsgone' is set and 'countdown' NOT set { // 'countdown' has expired // Redirect to expired page } If 'itsgone' and 'countdown' NOT set { //Set both cookies //$cExpiry = the expiry date of 'countdown' //$cValue = $cExpiry //$dExpiry = the expiry date of 'countdown' //$dValue = $dExpiry //setcookie('countdown', $cValue, $cExpiry); //setcookie('itsgone', $dValue, $dExpiry); // Display timer page }- 11 replies

Hi pwired, sorry to hear about your job, but you are right when you say another door opens. This exactly happened to me and I have been working for myself for the last ten years, but only about six years on the web. If it helps in any way I will give you a bit of my background (please don't take it the wrong way I am not trying to big-up myself). I started web-based activities in 2007, but I have been working with PC's since the late 1980's (yes, I am an old b*g*er), and created an ecommerce site using an off-the-shelf platform, but I created the layout/design myself. I've not had any formal training in html, css, php, js but I have learnt a lot along the way and certainly using Processwire over the last hear has boosted my knowledge, especially php. I have created my fair share of websites mainly using Dreamweaver and some custom Wordpress themes and now I do all my sites in Processwire for the many reasons stated on this forum. The last six months I have turned to responsive design and I now use the Skeleton framework. In 2009 I started some affiliate marketing in the Life Insurance market, built my own site, which is still running today. I use Adwords to drive traffic and make a fair profit each month on auto pilot. I've got other things on the go as well but I think I have said enough for the moment. OllieMackJames made some good points about starting online marketing. I use the Google keyword tool a lot but I also use other software to evaluate the competition, potential to make money, potential to get on Google's search results first page etc in any given market. You can find some useful video about keyword research, competition etc here: http://www.noblesamurai.com/dojo/marketsamurai/ Well, I hope that helps a bit. If you have any questions you can ask me here or by PM and I will be happy to help where I can.

I'm not quite sure what you mean the difference to be between 'close the browser' and 'completely quit the browser'?- 11 replies

I tend to agree. The design concept is good, but the elements that highlight on mouseover but do nothing are a bit confusing. I would say that most users would expect them to link to somewhere, and I don't understand why the pile of books sends you to the top of the page?

Countdown timer per user using $session
NooseLadder replied to NooseLadder's topic in General Support
I just found this in the config.php file: * sessionExpireSeconds: how many seconds of inactivity before session expires * */ $config->sessionExpireSeconds = 86400; So this is set to 24 hours. I guess it can be changed to suit, but does the user closing the browser within 24 hours override the expiry time in respect of ending the session?- 11 replies

Hi, I have created a JS coundown timer displaying on a site. Example here: A-F33 At the moment the end date is hard coded into the function as a variable endDate. The time difference is based on the current time versus the endDate. What I would like to do is when a user arrives at the page the timer is set from that moment to a specific enddate, maybe based on a set number of days e.g 7, 14, 30 etc. Then when user 2 arrives at the page, say the next day the timer begins the countdown for that user for the same number of days. If user 1 returns to the page between the start of the coundown and the end he sees the time left relative to his visits and user 2 sees the time left relative to his visits, if that makes sense. I'm looking for advice on how to set this up and how to track each user. I thought I could use $session and set a custom expiry time. When the user's countdown reaches zero, I would like them to be taken to a custom page that explains that the offer has expired and what they can do next etc etc. So in a nutshell I would like each visitor to the page to have their own countdown initiated from their first visit. So each offer will have a set number of days to run for each user and at the end they are redirected to a n expiry page. I hope that makes sense?

Some Thoughts on Blogging with ProcessWire
NooseLadder replied to FuturShoc's topic in Getting Started
@FuturShoc Did you get any further with this as I am interested in doing the same? -
Thanks Ryan, Do you know of any posts that might be helpful if I want to add the coding to existing site?

I'd like to add the blog profile onto this site: avon representative probably as a subfolder. The main site has the standard PW installation v2.2 on the public_html root as usual. If I want to add a blog as a subfolder to public_html and have the layout very similar to the main site, do I just install the PW blog on the subfolder or would it be best to have the blog profile on the main site and style it like the exisiting main site. I'm looking for recommendations and the best way to do it with minimum man hours. Thanks. BTW I'm glad you have used the skeleton framework on the blog profile, I like it very much.

Serving different videos depending on media size
NooseLadder replied to NooseLadder's topic in General Support
I will look at that thanks. Does that include options for swapping videos or will I have to do something additional?
