Thank you! I appreciate the explanation.

I created the following CKEditor plugin to insert some Hanna Code, and it just does not want to show up on the editor toolbar, despite being activated in the field settings along with PWImage, etc. /site/modules/InputFieldCKEditor/plugins/loopvideo/plugin.js: CKEDITOR.plugins.add( 'loopvideo', { icons: 'loopvideo', init: function( editor ) { editor.addCommand( 'insertLoopvideo', { exec: function( editor ) { editor.insertText( '[[loopvideo id="pvLa9DPgJVc" loop="1" volume="100"]]' ); } }); editor.ui.addButton( 'Loop Video', { label: 'Insert Looping Video', command: 'insertLoopvideo', toolbar: 'tools' }); } }); Screenshots of the input configuration for the field "body": Input configuration screenshot 1 Input configuration screenshot 2 I've also verified that I have icons in place for this plugin under loopvideo/icons/ Any ideas of what to check next? Or a way to troubleshoot this? I don't get any JS errors on the page where the Body field's CKEditor is running. Thanks!

I changed the parameters for an image->size() operation on a site I'm running, and due to a loose pulley somewhere in the server, I now have a bunch of broken image icons in the website, where the thumbnail images should be. What's the best way to reset these--to start the resizing & caching operation again? I tried deleting one of the images from its folder in /site/assets/ but that didn't seem to do anything. I also tried resetting ProCache by saving a page. No change. I thought about changing the dimensions by one pixel but that seems kind of lame. Thanks!

Thanks Diogo, I didn't know that was there. So I've enabled /es/. Should I now change my browser language and test to see if I am redirected?

I'm testing ProcessWIre's localization features, trying out fields like TextAreaLanguage and PageTitleLanguage. I've got them installed, assigned, and filled out. Now, how do I, for example, make Spanish-language fields show up on the public site for Spanish-language visitors? It feels like a bit of a dumb question, but I swear I looked at the docs! I thought it might be automatic detection based on a header string or something, but that hasn't worked for me. I don't know exactly what details to look for as this is my first time through. Thanks!

There was a lot of focus on enterprise that crept into revo, so I like the sound of the added simplicity with 3.0. When I picked up a ModX evo site because of a new client, I remember being pretty impressed. I felt a sort of bond between myself and the Ukrainian guy who had apparently coded it; we both seemed annoyed by inefficiency. I still wonder if evo made him feel the same way it made me feel, kind of sad but hoping there would still be some nifty changes down the road for ModX. Just the other day while on a hike I was thinking about making some kind of "Bob's Guides"-type site for ProcessWire, because man, that site really helped a few times when I was working with ModX.

Ah ha ha. Thanks Horst, that makes complete sense. I should clarify that I'm only asking about this because a client was "trying the search tool" and was curious about how it's working. I will explain stop words if it comes up again. And if we really, really need "about" removed, now I know how to! Thanks again.

Thanks, Tom. I tried the same search on a site I built some time ago: http://www.stevezuieback.com/search/?q=About Different server, same results. Kind of weird.

Thanks Tom--yeah, I changed the title to "Abouttesting Us" and a search for "abouttesting" worked great. As soon as I changed it back to "About Us", no more results for "about". The page is visible on the site and is not hidden or unpublished.
 -
Using the default search.inc file, I'm unable to get a result for "About" in a site that has a page called "About Us". Other pages seem to show up just fine via title search. Any ideas? Thanks!

Yeah, my attempt at a shocking little joke there. I feel pretty good about my vintage every time a local high school student tells me they are excited to work at a startup "I'm busy that month eating a sandwich, sorry" What's crazy is that there's quite a bit of demand even for WP hawkers being forecast for years down the road. That market anticipation is what's fueling the web design majors that have been appearing in larger universities. In 2009 shortly after the economic troubles began, my business guy said "in five years you'll have more work than you can handle," and I was pretty skeptical. But as I read somewhere, software tends to expand like a gas. I guess tying your business to something with those properties is not a bad idea. A business with a Django site called recently; after their dev left and the code started showing its age, they were feeling just as screwed as your Woocommerce guys were. They were excited about using a particular Django CMS plugin to solve their admin usability woes, and I was really close to showing them ProcessWire (and about 10% of the way toward getting excited about relatively familiar Python frameworks and jumping into Django) but unfortunately they said they wanted to stick with the current platform at all costs, and look at these big awesome plugins, as they thought this would be a huge efficiency trick. Now they are going to be calling people for days just to get a handle on their glorified brochureware site, which, if run by a plugin, will be like 10x more likely to take them down more rabbit holes...

I agree, Pierre-Luc. It reminds me of the way I felt about people using Microsoft Word for desktop publishing after I learned to use Aldus Pagemaker. Especially when those macro infections really started to go around I noticed that clients don't really appreciate it much when I pretend to faint at the mention of WP and generally play the victim card on CMS issues. So lately I tread really carefully when I need to communicate my CMS angst. But when I communicate with web designers, it feels like more of an opportunity. Nobody wants to be preached to, myself included, but we can and should educate each other as fellow devs & designers.

I like this idea. I usually make time to call or meet with with my local competitors colleagues and it's nice to chat about work-related stuff. Occasionally one of them will be kind enough to say, "that particular client is kind of not great so be careful" and save me a ton of grief. I'd be willing to pay for something like this, because having to make it to 200 posts would be a lot of [looks at own post count] uh...so, when did this happen.

Just an update on this: I met up with the client's team for some training and it went really well. They seemed to enjoy learning ProcessWire, picked it up really fast, and I think everybody understands that it's just a bit of an unusual situation that led to WordPress being replaced in this case. On top of that, the main WordPress user is a really nice guy, was pretty open to learning more, and seemed impressed with ProcessWire. On top of that, apparently he'll be leaving his role soon anyway. I did add some candy to the deal with a few new features that they noticed right away, and they told me they appreciated the way the site is set up. In sum: I really appreciate the tips, everybody.
 -
That's right. However, as things are right now with the low number of posts, I doubt there is really much SEO value to be gained.

Hey everybody, I'm one of the admins on the ProcessWire FB page and I had a question. For those of you who are active on Facebook, would you rather that we turn the group into a closed group instead of a public group? You can see the difference here: screenshot. Anyone can still request to join the group, so it's still pretty open, but you have to join the group to see the posts. The reason I'm asking is: I notice I don't feel like posting there much, because my Facebook friends are notified whenever I post to a public group. So it's kind of a disincentive to post, for me--like I'm calling attention to something that is just more noise in their feed. Let me know what you think!

I'm on there, usually I hang out for a bit on /r/PHP, /r/webdev, /r/worldnews, and up until recently /r/serialpodcast. I found /r/teenagers the other day and was so fascinated (it's like a discussion area for teenagers and I felt like an old man).

Great job, Marty. I too really appreciate your aesthetic. The IA site is my favorite that you've made, and I was thinking we could commission Levent Efe to do a cutaway illustration of your web designer brain for your forum profile photo. Just an idea

Thanks everybody, I appreciate the insight!

I have a new client that has basically been forced to have their site converted from WordPress to ProcessWire. It's a bit of a long story, but I am feeling some resistance from some of the in-the-trenches editors who will be working with the new ProcessWire site. I think they'll be happy with the general usability of ProcessWire after I show them how it works, but I'm concerned that they are used to WordPress and view this as a loss for them because WordPress is a widely-known name. Is there anything neat that ProcessWire could provide that I can add to the site (back end or front end) to make them feel more like this is an improvement? Just want to tip the scales in favor of ProcessWire a bit. (I thought about telling them they could add an additional software package to their C.V.s ;-))

Hi pwired, Correct, mod_security in CPanel. I'm still looking into the issue but so far it looks like there was a false positive in some encoded third-party cookie data. Can't share the settings/config atm. Mod_security made the decision to 404 these requests.
 -
Update: I traced the problem back to mod_security and it's fixed now. Marc

I'm unable to log in to the PW control panel--it gives a 404, along with every other page except for /home/, and I'm seeing some strange entries in the site database. Screenshot: https://www.dropbox.com/s/safuaqjk21iprt8/Screenshot%202014-10-16%2015.07.37.png?dl=0 The user "admin" has modified a ton of pages and I'm not sure if some of the status values are even real status values. Like /http404/ was assigned a status of 2059, so the site was showing a 500 error until I changed that back to published/hidden. Any advice on what to check? I do have ProCache installed and activated. Thanks! Edit: I just disabled ProCache through PHPMyAdmin and now things are working again. What might be going on? (Some mod want to move this to the ProCache forum?) Edit 2: Problems again. Now even the home page is giving a 404. :-P This is so weird. Edit 3: The problem seems to be intermittent 404 errors across the entire site. When one page starts working, they all work. Then for a while no pages will work (404). Repeat. Edit 4: Not a ProcessWire issue--see reply below.

I would add that you might want to indicate whether it's enough to solve the problem (and then state the problem) or if the wireframes must be followed to the letter (and why). A friend proposed an ingenious idea while I was halfway through a module of my own and I wished I had only stated the problem to him earlier.

Completely stuck with a templage coding matter - help appreciated
MarcC replied to totoff's topic in API & Templates
It's in the "echo $out" portion -- just assign that to a variable via "return" and echo it later rather than doing it inside the function's foreach loop. (Oops, duplicate of arjen...anyway I think he's right)
