And its a really nice site too!

Yes, the original BBC article is here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-18819338 The entire world of internet advertising is, I think, very dodgy. I have had two clients over the last couple of years who I have lost because they moved from traditional advertising to internet advertising. Both have now returned as their internet advertising failed to live up to the hype - these guys were using proper agencies too, not just doing it themselves. The problem is that response does not necessarily turn into sales. Personally, I think a major issue is the company Facebook page. If an advert drags you to a facebook page, you are faced with something that is not unique, has predictable tools and basically, looks pretty much like the competition. Also, any calls to action are relying on live posting (which slides down the page) and the written reaction from other posters. If the advert drags you to a bespoke website that is well designed, it can be stuffed with information, calls to actions, love and honey. Look at it this way. If you were Amazon.xx would you want people to be taken to Facebook or to Amazon?

Just updated my version to Foundation 5.1.1 See notes on original post

I will have a look at that. I use a bit of jquery to test heights of elements within another elements (so divs within divs, for instance) and then set the heights of all divs to the largest one.

I used to play Adventure (original text game) on an old Prime main frame which still had card readers. That was Proper computing!

Yes, simply use a page field in conjunction with ASM and autocomplete (er, I think) and set up parent and child templates for the actual tags - so each tag is a page. If you set the page field to allow the creation of pages, and make sure your parent template can only use one template for children, then as you type it will autosearch for existing tags and if none exist then it will create one on return.

Have you any settings under Max Width in the settings for the image field?

Repeaters within repeaters, and the pageFields inside them.
Joss replied to darrenc's topic in General Support
If you were doing this as a crud system without processwire involved, you would do this as two actions - create a rate type (whatever that consisted of) and then use that type. So, do the same thing here. Your rates can be pages which are created under a parent and then can be selected using a page select as part of the repeater. What I am not sure about is how you can do that on an individual basis so that each user has their own selection. -

You can create a detailed table of data using a repeat field for each of your "rows" So create a repeater field that has the following fields: 1. Rental Period (season?) 2. Daily Rate 3. Weekly Rate 4. Mothly Rate plus any other options. Now, first of all, loop through them and sort them by rental period. Having done that, loop through those results to display the other fields You can do this ad-infinitum, really. Somewhere on this forum someone helped me with an events list that had to do the same thing (though we had to split the date apart first) First, it looped by year, then by month, then by event. The result was a Year heading, followed by the list of months (only those actually used) and under each month the list of events for the month. Does that help you in the right direction? -
There is the difference here that the format dropdown inserts tags where as the styles dropdown inserts styles INTO tags.

Well, much to my surprise I actually found a white ergonomic keyboard in the uk http://www.amazon.co.uk/Perixx-PERIBOARD-512W-Ergonomic-Split-Keyboard/dp/B0076KUTKS/ref=sr_1_2?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1391725524&sr=1-2&keywords=perixx+ergonomic I had been looking for one for years - I like ergonomic, but I hate black keyboards. Really bad when you are a writer trying to churn out 10,000 words. It is a US board, but with some custom keyboard profiles and a cheap pack of sticky labels, I have forced it to be UK

@totoff Not particularly. Unless you are investing in top end solutions like Nuendo and Nuage - but even then, the DAW part of the system is standalone and can run on either Mac or Windows, as far as I know (though they tend to illustrate it with a Mac) The original upsurge in Mac use in audio has two historical events. ProTools , which was originally Sound Designer and ran on Atari, was bought by Avid and developed for the Mac only. Logic (another Atari original as Creator), ran on Mac and Windows till Apple bought it and effectively threw away 50,000 users who were on Windows. The migration to Cubase in Europe was quite spectacular! Also, with many video formats being developed associated with Mac, it made sense to keep them all joined together. But the industry is not so obviously streamlined now and networking between different systems is not the same headache as previously. So people tend to go for the system they like, or the software runs well on. I am on Windows using Cubase at home (and Nuendo at a studio I am still involved with). But my system is not exactly off the shelf with 64mb ram, 6 core intel and 2 TB of SSDs (plus 6 TB of HD). Then there is additional DSP furnished by other boards and interfaces. It can get quite warm in my office when I have it all running! I don't overclock, by the way (which some home users do) - there is absolutely no need (I have never run out of CPU and Ram) and if I really want to fry an egg I have a nice new Smeg cooker downstairs.

Interesting what you said (many months ago) about the media business. On the audio front, though many still err towards Macs, there has been a steady move to windows - ProTools, which used to be Mac only, has now built a very large windows market. And Logic (which was bought by Apple) seems to have lost favour at least in part because they no longer support windows. Part of this is pricing (Macs are very over priced at top levels) but also that you can build some pretty huge PC systems! Mind you, even domestic, lowerpriced PCs can run most software-only DAWS quite happily now.

And yes yes yes! The man is cooking on gas!!!! Got it working.... well, so far. Once I finish I will bung together a quick tutorial together because this is a really complicated JQuery plugin (as far as sliders go) and it might be useful for people to know how to weld it together with PW.

Oh Good It was one of those things that I stared at just a little too long and my head went out of focus .... without any wine as well!

Ah, that is because I am comparing Bootstrap 3 and Foundation 5 - both of which are significantly different from their predecessors (well, particularly Bootstrap)

Not so much a question but just seeing if what I am planning to do makes sense. I need to implement Layerslider on a site. This is a responsive, layered slider with parralax effects and stuff. Each slide can be made up of various images and text, each element being given its own style (which has to be inline) and data info. This is for things like position, transitions, and other stuff. So, what I thought I would do is make up a repeater for each slide element where you can chose the type of element (image or P) and then add the style and data info as required. The repeater would then be added to a page template - each page being a slide. So, under a parent, I would have a pile of pages representing slides, and each page has a repeater that lists the elements of each slide. I would then either just call in the pages directly into the template (just listing through them) or, I would add a page field to whichever template they are going to appear in, and you can choose the slides (er, pages) using ASM. Does that sound about right? Joss

ha - if you used my foundation profile, it still had the PW specific bits in there!

I will have a look at those, chaps. I just chatted to Rackspace and they thought I could run a 4gb linux server for, perhaps, 2 weeks (that would be about 42 pounds) and then take an image and restore it to a 1 gb at 3p per hour. Though, if it calmed right down, I would be tempted to dump it and put it on a shared.

Hi opalepatrick When you align it adds a style to the element that floats left or right. In the original download for PW in the styles css you have the following: .align_left { float: left; margin: 0 1em 0.25em 0; } .align_right { float: right; margin: 0 0 0.25em 1em; } .align_center { display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; } Those are the styles used in the editor which you can customise as you wish. If you want to add more style information you can use JQuery to addClass to your element as part of your template. I normally make sure that when I do a template, where I am using a RTE field I wrap that in a div with a unique class or ID so I can identify things like the <a> element that is wrapped round the image and add various bits to it. So, for instance, if I were using fancybox and needed to add the class and the group attribute, I would wrap the output in a div called blog then use the jquery $('.blog img').closest("a").addClass("fancybox ").attr('rel', 'group');

Of course, there is the point that BS 3 works with IE8 (more or less) where as Foundation 5 doesn't Interesting going through your lists, Beluga ... I like the brave ones that are compatible with IE5

Down that path lies madness - trust me, I have been doing this (surviving this? ) for 35 years. Anyway, you will find out at the end of the month when the book comes out.
-
Thanks, I will go an look. It is just the possibility that in the first week the celeb will get 500,000 hits and then in the second, once everyone realises that all the revelations are in the book not the site she will get 10 hits. And yes, whatever I do, I will use the pro-cache module.
-
Without going into any details (I actually can't) I might have to build a simple site in a hurry for a medium level celeb. The site will be to support their autobiography which may cause some headlines (or not - difficult to predict) The website will just give a bit of background to the book, have some embedded videos (probably YouTube hosted) and some photos that did not make the final edit of the book. Knowing celebs, there will not be much money kicking around! The problem is that if this hits the headlines, the site could gain a lot of interest for a few days or maybe a few weeks. But the chances are that after that, interest in the actual site will fall away more or less completely. Without the controversy, this site could probably sit happily on a shared solution - but if this takes off, that might be problematical - but only in the very short term. So, how do I get round this? Going to a dedicated server for a year's contract would be silly, but starting on a shared might also be a problem. Ideally, I should be on a powerful server for the first month, see how it goes, and down grade to a shared. Any ideas on how I can plan this out would be wonderful - I have never encountered this before. Joss PS: UK Users - Just stick with the technical and do not worry about the celeb! However tempting that is.....

Hey, I still like Corel Webmaster Suite! (Think I have cracked that joke before)
