This makes all perfect sense and be obvious to github workers, but not everybody is contributing and committing on a project done through github. How many are doing commitments on pw or on other projects through github and how many are only using pw ? Hence the number of people not being familiar with github as a dev platform and not everybody knows that systemversion is just an internal thing so that PW knows when it needs to apply something. On top of that everybody is familiar with downloading software and programs with a clear visible version number in the filename or in the readme.txt When posts show up in the forum saying something like "we are now on dev version 2.3.2 with this now stable and that improved" some people start looking for where to download this dev 2.3.2. They expect it to find the same way just as they download software and programs with a clear visible version number in the filename and inside the readme.txt. They end up looking at github but nowhere it says dev 2.3.2. Confusion starts. We download anyway but see only the word dev in the filename, we don't see a dev version in the filename. More confusion. After the download we open the zipfile, we don't see a familiar readme.txt but a readme.md. Fine we don't understand .md but we see at least the word readme so that will do but in the first line it says # ProcessWire 2.3 - more confusion, what have I just downloaded ? Is this scenario so hard to picture or is this another example of something that happens only to newbies and designers and never happens to coders ? (who commit on github so that makes sense) Of course I understand you can't change the dev version after every commitment, but it could after every x commitments or after major commitments and put it in the file name and in the readme.md Why readme.md anyway and not simply readme.txt like the other .txt files in the zipfile ?

No good news from spain. Haven't had vacation since 10 years. Portugal, Greece and Spain suffer the most from the economic crisis compared to all the other european countries. 30 percent unemployed and many jobs are payed now without social security, take it or leave it. The government does only little control and doesn't care much. So it's surviving here. Except if you find a job in a hotel or in a bank. They still pay you all the social security and holiday money. But since I am originally from the Netherlands I can tell you how dutch people take there holidays. Usually 2 to 3 weeks in July, August or September, this is high season. First the north, then the middle and last the south of the Netherlands. You have to use up all your 5 weeks holidays before the end of the year so the rest is taken during the year and in december with santa claus 6 december and with christmass 25 december. In the summer most of the dutch go to the south on a camping in Italy and France or the touristic south coast of Spain or the fantastic climate on the canary islands (only 4 hours flying). Almost all hotels on the canary islands offer an all-in package, that is flight ticket, bus transport, hotel room, breakfast and dinner all included for 1 cheap price. However this hotel formula has destroyed many local restaurants and bungalow parks on the canary islands. The last 10 years the east became popular too like thailand. Very friendly and hospital people (thanks to buddhism), cheap hotels, bungalow parks, beautiful nature, fantastic kitchen and climate. Many real estate companies in spain and on the canary islands are looking now for housing to rent in thailand and do good business.

Pete, thanks for the extended explanation. This is one of those knowings you won't normally find in the forum neither on github. You have to be "around" for some time to know this as something obvious. Which also gives some credit to Zahari Majini posts. Sometimes "getting there" takes a while of flinching.

Anyway the dev version should not so difficult to be found. Simply in the file name or at least in the readme.md Sometimes I have this feeling that websites, cms-ing and coding is more like a digital battle field. I had it for today. After 10 hours gonna turn off my laptop and look for the fridge, the sofa and my tv. Arjen, thank you for being so patient and taking the time to explain where to find that dev version.

I did that and downloaded the following file : ProcessWire-dev.zip Windows File Size 5.69 MB (5,969,652 bytes) In windows properties I see a tab "comment" with following contents f121cb0f954e14d31941a43d0a345b392c91cd6a It doesn't say any dev version. How can I know from this the dev version When I open the zip file and view the readme.md the first line says # ProcessWire 2.3 Maybe it is just me but where can I see the dev version of this downloaded zip file ? It should be 2.3.1 or 2.3.2

Zahari, you are certainly not the only one. There are more out there who have trouble becoming good with pw because pw has such an amazing open potential. It can be for many reasons like having only designer experience. Anyway we are all here to learn the amazing open potential of pw. One good advice: Go do things your own way with your own tutorials and snippets only to become more familiar with pw. Don't risk learning tricks, patterns and solutions that you have to leave later on because they turn out to be flawed. Is only waist of time. There are those who ask for documentation improvement (complain) that it is lacking this and that and there are those who have no problems with the existing documentation. Designers and Coders. Without coding skills the documentation will always lack something and you will always have questions not answered in the documentation. The only way is to start learning to code and practice a lot. After that more and more questions will fall away. Mmmm coming to think of it maybe there is not only room for a FAQ for newbies but also group together the existing tutos and api / php coding examples in one place in the forum. Fans of both modx and pw ? How many people would that be ? There are lots of modx refugees here. To me it is more that there are lots of ex modx-ers who moved over to pw for 3 main reasons: 1. modx evo roadmap first stopped, was then spread over forks and later on picked up again but by then pw was already discovered. 2. for many evo users revo was not the answer. 3. revo is too slow and suffers scalability (disclaimer on this third one, this is my opinion - try it your self) pw is the cms with a core, architecture, and performance many of us have been looking for. The modx forum is as great as the pw forum. I learned a lot during my evo days thanks to a lot of great people in the modx forum who always help you out in a professional way such as giants like Susan Otwell (19000 posts!!) and Bob Ray, Open Geek, etc. etc. and Mary with dozens of tutos.

Are there any settings to activate / deactivate template caching ?

When I was working with modx evo in the past I always had to empty the cache inside the modx evo admin when I changed pictures somewhere in a slideshow. Otherwise the old pictures showed up and not the new ones. Modx evo had a special empty cache button inside the admin. How is this with the cache inside pw ?

Yes deleted it inside /site/templates/styles/images/logo.gif and replaced it with another gif now it's working. Where to find and how to empty pw cache after doing certain edits ?

I think it's working now. Deleted it inside /site/templates/styles/images/logo.gif Now it's gone. Don't know why it didn't work before.

Hi This must be a dumb question but I can not change the logo.gif for another gif. I located logo.gif inside wire/templates-admin/styles/images/logo.gif and also inside /site/templates/styles/images/logo.gif When I delete it or replace it with another gif with the same dimensions 179 x 25 the old processwire logo stays showing up. Do I need to empty a cache somewhere and if so where to do that ?

Hi dhruba, with pw, you found a cms that is going to save you a lot of time and headaches compared to the other cms'es out there. PW is becoming more popular and newbies keep on coming in. As much as I respect people's time and effort to answer newbie questions over and over again, the same questions and the same answers are repeating themselves over and over again and all these posts become spread over the forum where they become harder to find. Besides a getting started channel I suggest to open a newbie channel where these posts with the same newbie questions and their answers are collected and pinned and put in a central place.
