Hi everyone,

I’ve made Workspace available on GitHub. It brings independently installed ProcessWire applications into a shared interface, with an application launcher, Favorites and common navigation.

Workspace on GitHub

I built it for people who use ProcessWire for day-to-day business work: contacts, orders, email, files or support. They need quick access to their applications, while technical administration stays with the administrator.

Workspace includes:

  • A searchable launcher showing applications the current user can open.
  • Favorites that become the default view once an application is pinned.
  • An application switcher with square desktop tiles and a horizontal strip on mobile.
  • Shared appearance settings: Light, Dark, System and Black modes, color palettes, font choices, text scaling and contrast controls.
  • Native ProcessWire localization and Font Awesome icons from the core.
  • Hook-based registration for additional site Process modules.

The package contains Workspace, ProcessWorkspace and AdminThemeWorkspace, which builds on AdminThemeUikit. Applications keep their own handlers, forms, permissions and business data.

Optional integration descriptors are included for Kontor, Mercato, Mailbox, Files and Tickets. These applications are installed separately. Other modules can register through Workspace::getAppDefinitions; the registration guide includes an example.

For operators with workspace-use, Workspace also enforces its registered application boundary on the server, independently of the selected theme. Application permissions, CSRF protection and record ownership remain the responsibility of each application. Administrators retain access to the standard technical interface.

Requirements: ProcessWire 3.0.244+, PHP 8.2+ and AdminThemeUikit. Install Workspace, grant the intended application permissions and workspace-use, then select AdminThemeWorkspace for the user.

Please start on a development copy. The launcher and six integration home screens have been reviewed in desktop Chrome, including 125% text scaling; individual editors and third-party workflows still need compatibility testing. Some Mercato actions currently lead to native page editing and are unavailable to Workspace operators.

Feedback on application integration, navigation and accessibility would be welcome.
