installation instructions

That's correct that the  majority of the installation is all done by the installer. Here are the current install directions from the readme file (below). If anyone's found lack of clarity here, maybe it would make sense to repeat them in more places (it can't hurt anyway).

INSTALLATION FROM ZIP

1. Unzip the ProcessWire installation file to the location where you want it

  installed on your web server.

2. Load the location that you unzipped (or uploaded) the files to in your web

browser. This will initiate the ProcessWire installer. The installer will

guide you through the rest of the installation.

INSTALLATION FROM GIT

1. Git clone ProcessWire to the place where you want to install it.

2. Load the location where you installed ProcessWire into your browser.

This will initiate the ProcessWire installer. The installer will guide

you through the rest of the installation.

Nico, when people see the installer, they already decided to go through a process. I'm talking about something that tells them how easy it is. And also that gives other info, like permissions for instance.

And the fact that your username has to be lowercase (gets me every time that one ;)).

On that note, could you change the error message or give some more indication that it has to be lowercase ryan? That or change it so if you put in a mixture of uppercase and lowercase it doesn't error and instead just changes it all to lowercase behind the scenes and carries on.

Back to the topic, I get what diogo is saying - sometimes it's handy for beginners to see just how easy something is so I was thinking about a very quick write-up with the relevant screenshots to help illustrate just how quick and easy it is. Some systems I've used are surprisingly less straightforward.

No problem–this has been added to the issue queue at GitHub.

I had to look up what FYI means, and I got all these:

  • For Your Information
  • For Your Interest
  • For Your Inspection
  • For Youth Initiative (Toronto, Ontario, Canada)
  • Fiscal Year Information
  • For Your Intonation (music)
  • For You Indirectly
  • Fresno Yosemite International, Fresno, CA (airport code)
  • Forget You Idiot (polite form)

i hope you don't mean the last one ;)
