Local PHP Dev Environment

Hey everyone. I ran across this and thought it was interesting. I’ve not tried it, but it’s been received well on Reddit:

I tried to install it 2-3 times on Linux Mint (Mate) without any result. I always had error messages and I couldn't find a solution.
It is using Nginx but that wouldn't have possibly been a problem.

I recently found something else that I started testing and I will keep on testing it: https://flyenv.com/
(Scrolling the entire homepage gives you a first idea of all that it does/offers.)
I faced a few hurdles, but I could "bypass" them, understand a little where things were "stored" and/or make a few changes, etc.
I'll continue to explore its features/tools. And I'll try to install ProcessWire with it of course.

Also, for those using Apple Silicon, are you aware of Container Machine, a Linux environment that runs natively on macOS 26?: https://github.com/apple/container

Edit: by the way, are some of you using asdf or mise, for example? I used asdf a little and now I'm using mise (for other languages, and I almost used it for php also - I could re-add it if needed).

To be honest, in some places I liked it more than MAMP. 

For example, you can set up a tunnel through Cloudflare from your computer, dedicating it to a separate external domain for testing. To show the client what's new, for example. I haven't fully utilized all the other features yet, but the fact that it supports the CLI out of the box is pretty nice. However, I haven't done any deep interaction yet.

Yerd looks like really cool! It is written in Rust, so has all the hype needed! The Windows version is planned for end of August as I can see from their roadmap. So have to wait a bit to try as Windows is still my primary workhorse. The other thing is it doesn't seem to have Apache. So it might be not so easy to use it with ProcessWire. 

Flyenv is in TypeScript, so less hype here. But it has an MCP for AI. Not sure it is needed on that level. But still trendy. End it offers support for not only PHP but some other languages and runtimes. And it has Apache. So must be suitable for ProcessWire.

I have started to use mise for CLI tooling and as a simple task runner. I have found some cool CLI tools using it. End it is able to easily install many of those new shiny AI agent tools in the project scope. But I do not think it can handle environment for a PHP project like ProcessWire. At least I do not know how to do it.

Really cool topic by the way! So many tools emerge nowadays! So many new possibilities that seemed hard and almost impossible for a solo dev or small team just a few years ago.
