Simple tutorial for CMS editors?

This may seem like a really stupid question, but is there anywhere a really simple guide for completely non-technical editors explaining the basics of ProcessWire. The sort of things that might be covered are:

  • what are pages and fields and templates
  • adding new pages - title and name (including dealing with duplicate names)
  • different types of fields - including page references
  • publish vs unpublished
  • the page tree and actions thereon
  • trash vs delete

but not covering editing fields or templates or any coding html or css stuff.

Not at real answer (Sorry!), but...

We do initial workshops with clients to guide them around and assist for at least 3 months for each and every question they might have.

In 90% of all cases that's all it ever takes as they are only able to add and edit small parts of the site.
Using CSV imports or ProLister might take a bit more time but other than that is easy going.

So that said: we never created any real tutorials, guides, or similar.

Keeping the client very close in the first months they do things on their own is super important for us.
Most of the editors can barely handle more than MS Office basics but can manage the website's content.

I've done something like this once, neatly grouped in chapters, with screenshots and even short video-captures. Everything the client needed was covered. Problem was... that particular client mostly forgot to look it up in the first place - even though that manual wasn't hidden away in some obscure place, or distributed as a separate file. It lived right there in the PW admin as a custom admin page.

I'd share it here, but a) it was in german, b) the site's setup is way too custom-tailored to make sense for most other people and c) it uses pro modules like Form Builder and Lister Pro. Also, afair the screenshots contain sensitive information, and the rich-text editor in use was CKE with a non-standard choice of buttons.

I'm not sure I would ever do such a manual again, seeing how much work went into it, and how easily it can be overlooked. I would invest my time even more into UX; e.g. for some sites, it makes sense to completely hide the page-tree. Also, use field labels and hint texts liberally. Hide, rename or otherwise simplify admin stuff (hooks? Admin On Steroids - or whatever the successor is called now? there's plenty of tools and examples around). Some stuff is right there in the core, e.g. restrict templates by page-tree, or disable changing the template etc.

Not stupid at all! Check ProcessWire forums or official docs!

Spoiler

Having a simple, non-technical guide would be really helpful for editors new to ProcessWire. Understanding pages, fields, and templates in an easy-to-follow way can make content management much smoother. Hopefully, there’s a resource out there, or maybe the community could collaborate on creating one to help new users get started quickly!
