Next up on the 'Dumb Questions' hit parade... Is there a good tutorial, module or forum topic resource on creating a feature slider? An images slider Or an images featured stories type slider with some text I'ld love to create this type of content to contribute, granted, I knew how to do it

Thanks Soma, just trying to be helpful from a usability standpoint with some input here. It never occured to me that an admin theme might change the admin layout in that regard. Good to know, thanks for the reply. My guess was that a Modules Manager is too good not to be in the core version. Great stuff, thanks again.

Not sure if this has been covered. Is there a way to add a navigation link, that shows up after installing a module that would take me back to the Module Manager, without clicking through from Setup and then Modules Manager? It only saves one click, but it makes sense to have a link back to the modules manager, after installing a module, right beneath the uninstall option div. Just a thought, since all things are customizable with PW. Just installed an RSS module, here's the URL, for where I'm meaning a link could go back to the Modules Manager: /processwire/module/edit?name=MarkupLoadRSS Another option would be if it were added into the breadcrumbs, and the user could click back to the Modules Manager page from there. Thanks for a great module.

Some products don't have a way that BuiltWith can identify them. I nudged the guys over at MODX about that, but they weren't too interested, thinking people would rather run MODX for example in incognito. Probably mostly for security purposes. I love builtwith, and knowing what's being used though too.

To confirm then, it's not necessary to click the green submit button to finalize installation of most modules. My first inclination was that maybe I had to be clicking the green submit to finalize module installation. Also using the Modules Manager, it would be nice if there were a link on that screen to go directly back to the Modules manager screen. thanks for the infos.

Thanks Ryan, where would a person dive in as far as documentation on extending the blog profile, a child profile if you will. Forgive me for tending to ask the obvious questions from a newbies perspective (which I am).

What is the Submit button for after installing a Module. I am not entirely sure, if the Green Submit Button is part of the installation process, or only there as part of the uninstall process. IF it is part of the uninstall process, it might be better served to be contained in the Uninstall Div that pops open, when you check the Uninstall checkbox. Does it have anything to do with finalizing the Installation process of the module? Thanks.

Hey just diving in here, the blog profile needs a sort of magazine layout homepage. I guess that may make it a news or magazine profile then maybe. Just a thought, and just jumping it, not having read through the entire thread at all. I love the fact the blog profile is built with the getskeleton.com, Dave Gamache - skeleton css framework. it is very straight foreward and easy to use for general layout purposes.

Running a Daily Newspaper website with Process Wire.

Hey guys... sorry for muddying the waters on the archived stories/articles data. Turns out the current .asp tool that publishes the story data, is pretty flexible. The output can be modified, and the stories can be FTP'ld. Given these new ideas to the mix, how do I get the FTP stories to the processwire db on a daily basis, is there anything built-in or add-on you would suggest there. I am talking about the new stories then on this, moving on from the whole archival stories issue. Beyond this one I wish I knew more about database structure, etc. to figure out the best and efficient way to deal with the individual stories vs what is a days issue. I have an idea of what templates I will need to start based on the story type. Also started looking at PHPquery vs the simpleHtmlDOM resource for working with the archived stories. http://code.google.com/p/phpquery/ There is plenty of info in this thread for me to dive back through already. Gracias' -
Not sure I'll need to rename it then. How easy is it to rename the install directory after installation? What changes would need made now that it is already installed? thanks to fredd-āāy of course Sorry for the newbie questions.

Any new activity or use on this one. Just wondering if anyone if finding good uses, or is using the module. I got an install of LessN More running today, it has an easy interface. My only real use case, now is to shorten links in a Tweet, and it will be novel to have my own. On the backburner will be toying with the module. It would be useful to shorten the path for news articles on a new beta site, if I can ever manage to get a beta in the wild.

Back on track, should I have any security concerns if I install PW in a directory at the root called wire. The system folder is at /wire/wire/. Does this sound like a bad practice, having installed PW into that folder, security-wise? Jsut checking... Thanks

I uninstalled he Arcade Candy, nobody admits to installing that one, lol. Hope that took care of it, MalwareBytes with a full scan found nothing so it was of no help. This morning I realized maybe it was as easy as uninstalling Arcade Candy. My search functions in the Chrome browser were def. being hijacked. Sorry for going off topic, never had many problems on my home machine either, till that. Off to visit the freelancers board.

Awesome, much more my speed then. I was thinking to make a fun little demo for the planets site. Imagining parallex scrolling with planet backgrounds, I've never really done any parallax scrolling sites either. Think I'll dig into that second one though, as it more applies to my other project. Saved again... I keep getting a malware sort of popup I don't think it's got anything to do with the wiki site. Anybody heard of uavou malware aka arcade candy, I just installed malware bytes, and it didn't get the little bugger

Hey guys I'm down with an actual install, now finally. I've met quite a few friendly folks here on the forums in my other thread, which details a very ambitious project I would like to tackle someday. Anyways, I'm hoping to work through the recommended tutorial aka Sci-Fi thriller building an actual Solar System, and thought I should start another thread. Below is the link for the tutorial Joss recommended: http://wiki.processwire.com/index.php/Small_Project_Walkthrough and this one: http://wiki.processwire.com/index.php/Basic_Website_Tutorial To start I am working on a local copy of Xampp. I may get even get a couple versions of local installs going. In the end I would like to get a live version of the project going at my domain crssp, and add some fun graphics for anyone in the community to benefit from. If there is a real actual live demo, I don't think I've visited that link if so? Below is the default site install (screenshot below for v.2.2 Basic Example Site), which according to the tutorial gets me up and running fast, with nothing to uninstall, an added bonus!

I'm noticing some of the major news site, have the same structure, at least the virtual path shows in a similar fashion: NY times for example: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/11/27/followed-by-a-title (fake link) Then to get to the current version they show with another path: http://www.nytimes.com/pages/todayspaper/index.html But stories still the same path. Also they maybe have categories or something in the paths: http://www.nytimes.com/2013/01/14/world/africa/french-story-etc What field etc. should I look at as far as importing stories to the database, will really help me out, just with moving forward with learning the system. For example in the Tutorial about planets, does it matter, it's just a field, and I can then relate to that field. Working through the tutorial, and maybe it will all click, page, pages, page array wire array, sort of muddled now.... thanks for all the awesome help. -

Cool Pete... Hey I hit @processwire up on Twitter, the link on the sites download page, needs to have the .zip extension added for it to work... Page: http://processwire.com/download/ Link should be for the Master.zip file: https://github.com/ryancramerdesign/ProcessWire/archive/master.zip Might confuse some folks thought i'ld add it here, since it's high-priority community item of a headsup nature -

The current site, creates a menu and an index per story type to access those. This screenshot sort of explains how it was previously done in the navigation, for past days. There is an index template, and menu list of articles per category, accessed this way from the drop down. -

The thing is, the current issues we would probably try to pull in just the RSS version, which would be XML possibly. I'm way out of my element on anything data related KISS, and keeping it simple is the best way for me to go. But there's no way a project like this would ever fall quite into the simple category, lol. My best strategy would be to go AGILE and then add features as I'm able. -

Superfast on the draw with that reply, thanks mate! I see your solution is sort of in the works, popped in to the forum thread a little bit on that to learn more: http://processwire.com/talk/topic/237-module-twitter-puller/#entry1647 -

Is the Process Data module in beta or documented in the download: http://modules.processwire.com/modules/process-data-import/ Not really trying to get off track here, with beginning a project and seeing what I can do. Beyond the data, the prospect of how to wire it all together, to dynamically get the 7 most recent issues is another thing to get my head around. We are a daily with the articles being published daily except sundays at around 1am in the morning. During the day we publish breaking news that usually works it's way into the following days articles queue. Even to get the data into a PW database and bootstrapping it elsewhere would be cool, such as being able to call it in another system, if nothing else. -

Thanks for all the help, the current server wouldn't even be the one used to run a Processwire beta setup. It will get setup on bluehost for the dev/beta site to get going. I thought there would be a chance to pull our issues folder down, run a script locally, and then push it up to Processwire later on. Is there a chance of gettting a year or so of articles formatted to just use the CSV importer or something already out there in plugin form as far as importers? Actually in the current version, the entire archive is only available via a third party archive, so we don't currently host that even. All you can get to via the site is the past 7-days rolling. this makes things much easier (maybe) to think about getting a beta up and running. With a Processwire site though it seems a shame not to host the entirety of the archives. Looking at possibly using a paywall type setup something like Tinypass is one I noticed this morning. -

More facts... The archive of stories is massive on disc it is: 1 gb approx. of code (no images) 173,000 files 7,720 folders A SimpleHtmlDom script that processes by year, would maybe be the best strategy? There will be approx. 11,000 files to process per year. Wowiee... Last year there were 24,000 files... 173 meg on disc. -

Which site profile would seem to be a better fit for a news site? Blogging or skyscraper, it isn't possible to have more than one profile per install is it? This is going to be proof of concept more than a production site to start, early beta... Thanks
