aelbers
Hello PROCESSwire members! When searching for lightweight Typo3 alternatives, I stumbled upon processwire. This first post is not a job offer (yet). It's a first inquiry. I need to know, if processwire is capable of the following things. Let's take the RWE SmartHome onlinehelp for reference. https://onlinehelp-sh.com/ We need an online reference to explain different features of a product. The following features are required: - Ability to display lists, tables, images and videos on content pages - Multi-Language contents - Defining tags for pages - Fast search based on tags - Editable urls for pages (e.g.: www.abc.com/en/introduction) - Download section to download user manuals - Quick content insertion - Content preview - Navigation index generation (see example page for reference) First of all - is all of this possible in processwire? (I bet) How fast can one realize all of this? What are the matters of expense, and what would the realization of that cost? (approximately) Best regards Andrej Elbers There are three cms we are looking into. Contao, Wordpress and processwire. From what i've read yet, I really favorize processwire. Peter Knight
Hey aelbers - Ability to display lists, tables, images and videos on content pages Yes - any content you can add to the back-end / admin can be displayed on the front end - Multi-Language contents Yes - although I've yet to try it myself plenty of others here have multi-lingual sites - Defining tags for pages Yes - it's very simple, scalable and fast - Fast search based on tags You mean in the admin area or the front end? In the back-end PW has a very fast search. On the front end (depending on your template setup), clicking a tag would bring up a list of matching pages with that tag. That's how I normally do it - Editable urls for pages (e.g.: www.abc.com/en/introduction) Yes - very simple. And there's a Module too to keep track of your page name changes and create automatic redirects to the renamed url - Download section to download user manuals I'll leave that to someone else. You'll need some registration and user verification around that? - Quick content insertion Yes - See the 'Add New' feature. - Content preview Yes - you can preview a page while editing it without having to publish it. - Navigation index generation (see example page for reference) Yes - native with simple PHP or there are 2 Menu modules. How fast can one realize all of this? Really depends on your skill levels. Are you new to CMS and PHP in general or are you pretty knowledgeable and just changing systems? What are the matters of expense, and what would the realization of that cost? (approximately) ProcessWire is open source. There are a few modules you may want to buy. if you're looking to outsource it, I'd recommend you look at the Jobs/Bounty forum and get quotes there. aelbers
- Fast search based on tags You mean in the admin area or the front end? In the back-end PW has a very fast search. On the front end (depending on your template setup), clicking a tag would bring up a list of matching pages with that tag. That's how I normally do it I'm speaking of tags invisible to the user which are only used for very quick frontend search results. Like the search box in the example page (which is extremely sluggish btw) - Download section to download user manuals I'll leave that to someone else. You'll need some registration and user verification around that? Nope, neither registration nor registration are needed. Just a page with links which start pdf downloads and some place in the backend to upload the sources. How fast can one realize all of this? Really depends on your skill levels. Are you new to CMS and PHP in general or are you pretty knowledgeable and just changing systems? I'm famliliar with content maintainance in Typo3 and HTML editing. But I only know PHP basics. I'm primarily java programmer. We are definately looking to outsource the job. But this will have to wait till the boss has decided on one CMS. I'm just gathering information What are the matters of expense, and what would the realization of that cost? (approximately) ProcessWire is open source. If we decide to use processwire, I will definately propose to look for someone here. I forgot to mention an aspect. Are there limitations in terms of browsercompatibility? Thank you very much for your comprehensive answer. Best regards Andrej Elbers PS: This site uses gravatar, I see...
cstevensjr
I forgot to mention an aspect. Are there limitations in terms of browsercompatibility? ProcessWIre works fine in all modern day browsers.
LostKobrakai
ProcessWIre works fine in all modern day browsers. That's the case for the backend which ships with ProcessWire. The frontend is always custom and therefore there are no limitations in browser compatibility, but it depends on what the dev does build for you.
