Help with the expression "spot-on"

Waaaaaaaay out of the PW subject here...

Just wanted to ask you native English speakers about the expression "spot-on". Is is common or badly connoted? And for the Americans, is it too british?

As an American, who has previously lived in the UK, it's an expression that I learned from friends and liked.   Too British --- for me, No.
