diogo
These guys are announcing their product pretty aggressively, and managed to make me curious I wonder how it works. https://thegrid.io/
Joss
Interesting. But I wonder if it is quite as "intelligent" as they like you to believe? Will each site look completely unique? Or will they all look like they were a product of The Grid? I like their presentation, though. Has a real "advertising agency" feel to it. Hi value presentation does make a whole lot of difference, whatever people may think. I often make this point to advertising clients who say "well, we don't really want that slick feel that the big players have - it's just not us." I tend to answer, "Why not? Your customers like it....."

When browsing for a product, service or other items of interest, i tend to rate -in part- by the way they present themselves on the web. When it's close i usually go for the one with the most 'up to date'/modern look and feel. You could say this is shallow, but i think a lot of people operate this way, consciously or unconsciously. diogo
Let's face it, sometimes people just want to put their content out there and can't or don't want to pay for a good designer. I don't think everything has to be forcefully designed. Also, some designers don't do more than repeat the same system for all the websites, in the end 90% of the websites will look almost the same anyway. i really like the idea of an automated, competent, inexpensive system to create sites, in contrast to competent bespoke design. For now I don't know much about this tool and I wouldn't use it anyway because it's not aimed at professionals, but I'm still curious

Oh, in advertising we rely on it. And there is no doubt that if all the edges are neat and the surfaces are polished then people will have more confidence in the product, as it were. There is actually good sense in that - it is not all frothy dressing. Back in the 18th and 19th centuries, in retail, it became clear that if the shopkeeper cared for his shop then there was a good chance he cared for his product too. Customers felt that, by extension, perhaps he would then care for them and their custom. It was not always true, of course, but not a bad starting point! And i like the way they leverage Github to basically host a bunch of markdown files that make up your site, and surround them with some tools/'artificial intelligence' web developer to do the heavy lifting. Maybe some kind of Jekyll/Octopress on steroids. *bookmarked*
