Sounds like this would be basically the same issue as adding pages to the top of the page list, which is also not currently possible, but would come in very handy when you have large page lists that you want to be able to sort manually but need new entries to appear first.

Have you guys see this module from horst that makes this possible for pages:

I haven't thought through how difficult it would be to make this work for repeaters, but might be worth a look.
