[ANSWERED] Template name “404” not added because it contains only digits.

So... while right in setting up a totally new project and adding basic fields and templates from scratch this error really caught my attention:

Template name “404” not added because it contains only digits.

As long as I can remember and in all projects I looked into, my 404 pages always get the 404.php template.

Is this new? Since when?
Do I have to change my existing projects?
This is a bit weird as most projects run either the latest stable or latest DEV version and none of them complained so far.

I'm not complaining.
error-404.php is fine for me or any other name, yet that was an interesting find somehow.

Wow. Thanks @szabesz. That's going on for longer than I thought.
Maybe I should start more often from scratch.
