after FTP upload, "/site-default/" folder in local becomes "/site/" folder in remote?

I've installed processwire in a few different roots now for a few different projects.

Strangely to me, after extracting the initial processwire zip package you get a folder titled "site-default", but after uploading it to the remote and going through the installation it becomes "site".

Consequently, I lose synchronization info, and I usually end up having to rename my local folder "site". Or I download the remote version of "site" and delete "site-default" in my local folder.

Is this supposed to be happening (does this happen to others)? Am I missing a step?

This is the normal behaviour when installing ProcessWire -  the folder is renamed to /site/. In Pw, your files of the website are all inside the /site/ folder.

There exist several profiles you can install with Pw:http://modules.processwire.com/categories/site-profile/

/site-default/ is just the default profile included in the download.

Because you did not install Pw locally, you have to rename your /site-default/ manually.

But better workflow IMO is to install Pw locally and then transfer the files to your FTP.

On XAMPP (locally) PW renames my /site-default/ to /site/. Does it not in other local installs?

That's the normal behaviour.

But Gnuey did not install Pw locally, only on the remote server. That's why locally the folder is still named site-default

OK.  Your statement

You have to rename your /site-default/ folder to /site/ locally.

confused me...Of course you meant in this particular case Gnuey needed to do the renaming :)

Ah, okay, I see. Yeah I just read up on working on a testing server first and I see they're pretty important.  I need to start practicing utilizing them.

Thanks!

(p.s. just changed my display name)
