Multilingual, link to other language page

Multilingual Site (EN / ES)
Normally, it's not possible (!?) to set a link from an EN to a ES page (to a different language page) in CKEditor. Entering the link manually via the URL doesn't work either, evenver the entry in the editor is correct, you remain in the current language version.

Is there a solution?

I've ran into the exact same issue, and couldn't find a satisfying solution. I would be interested also to learn if anyone has found a way around this limitation.
