Template settings: little confusion about "family" settings

It's just a little thing, but i found it a bit confusing that in the template settings > family you have these options:

1. May pages using this template have children?

but:

2. Can this template be used for new pages?

Maybe it would be clearer if the first would be:

"May pages using this template have new children?"

And the same for the following:

Allowed template(s) for parents > Allowed parent template(s) for new pages using this template

Allowed template(s) for children > Allowed children template(s) for new pages using this template

Or am i just a bit confused? ;-)

Hi Doolak

Can this template be used for new pages?

This means that you can stop this template being used again. Particularly useful if the template has a very specific use for just one page and will be little use anywhere else.

May pages using this template have children?

Where pages using this template exist and whether or not this template can be used for any other pages, you can set whether those existing pages can have children or not.

If they can, then you can additionally confine them to using just one or more template.

It is only complicated because it is so versatile! :)

Hi Joss,

thanks for your answer!

I know what those settings mean and i use them as you described. I just thought, that it may be a little confusing that it does not say:

"May NEW pages using this template have children?"

That would make it clearer that before setting this to "No" you can add some children but after having set it to "No" no more children will be possible.

Well, that wouldn't be true; because if they can't, then you also can't add children to the OLD pages using this children. Maybe something along the lines 'May users add children to pages using this template?'
