Language switching.. it's possible?

Hi everybody,

I'm new both in the forum and in PW.

I have just finished my first site with PW and maybe I did a big big error.

In my site I have 2 language: it (italian) and default (english) and the problem is that i want that the default language is "it" but in the admin panel I selected as default the english language (because I thought i could change it, i thought that "default" was only a label)  and I have no way to switch it. How can i do? I already tried to instal "Autodetected Language" module but it doesn't work

Attached you can find some screen of my admin panel, related to the language selection.

Thanks in advance

Hi solido ( ciao, anche io italiano ;)),

I suggest you to go to this thread, I had the same exact problem as yours while ago and in the end I decided, for lack of time, to swap my fields from one language to the other and then revert the default language.

You can, anyway, check the proposed module by @bcartier and see if it works for you.

I had already read that thread but for me is not the solution.

I'm newbie in PW but I think that the use of "default" label for english create misunderstanding, because every "Non English" state will use the "default" language as their own language.

I think that a good workaround is or a BIG warning message when you select the default lang that alerts you that this choice is irreversible or the possibility to change the label "default".

It's true that this might be annoying, but it's named "Default" and not English for a reason. There's also this topic about changing the default language: https://processwire.com/talk/topic/11451-change-default-language-revisited/

And there's also the risky option to just go an rename all the columns of multi language fields.

Yes I had already read but it seems complicated.

The stuff that got me in wrong way was: if the "default" lang in already set in english, why i have to change in my own language and then i have to download a eng language pack again?

now i'm trying the Autodetected Language module but at the moment, ti doesn't works :(
