I've joined another CMS' Facebook group and it has worked out really nicely. So I made one for Processwire. Anybody on FB is welcome to join and participate.

A fan page would be a good idea, also. News, announcements, etc can be shared from a fan page, where they can't be from a group. I normally *hate* FB groups...but I made this one exception
