hello processwire community,

i wonder how the "page-template" permission works. the documentation states:

page-template

Enables user to change the template used by a page. This is performed in the page editor Settings tab > Template field. Also requires page-edit permission.

i have a user with "page-edit" and "page-template" permission (for example with the superuser role). however when i go to a pages settings -> template fields. i see no gui indication to change the pages template.

In the template's settings is a checkbox to disallow template change for just that single template. Would you please make sure that one isn't checked.

thank you. this was the issue.

now i get a dropdown list with templates to select from. however this list shows some templates which are not applicable.

- repeaters are shown as templates

- the list shows templates with setting "Can this template be used for new pages?" set to no

is it possible to have these removed from the dropdown?

you are correct. they only show up for the superuser.

however it is a litte unintuitive as for the superuser the "Can this template be used for new pages?" setting is respected in the page tree but not in the change template setting.

also is there a use case in which a page should be changed to the repeater template by the superuser? wouldn't the page also need to be removed from the sitetree?

Repeater pages are not removed from the pagetree. They're just in a place most people don't look for them (inside Admin). I'm with you that this is unintuitive and I'm not sure if it's supposed to be that way. At least superusers are excluded from almost all access or otherwise limiting factors.
