Nothing happens when trying login in to the admin panel

Hi.
I am running a mac with the latest version of OS, mamp, processwire.

I have installed and created an admin user, I am 100% sure my username and password is correct.

Yet when I type in my username and password: nothing happens

The error is: 404 on 

POST	http://localhost:8888/processwire/

on my mamp folder i have downloaded all files from the zip and placed them in the root. Respecting the files and folder of the zip.

I am very unsure what to do.

Are you maybe missing the .htaccess file in your root directory?

If you're copying files around with Finder, it won't move the .htaccess files which aren't in a subfolder.
