Unable to install PW 2.6.1 because of SQLSTATE[42000]

Hi, I just set up a server for a friend of mine and wanted to install the latest stable release, but I cannot finish the installation because of the following message: 

Error: Exception: SQLSTATE[42000] [1115] Unknown character set: '' (in /customers/1/e/3/***CENSORED***/httpd.www/wire/core/ProcessWire.php line 186)

When I looked up this line I found: 

throw new WireDatabaseException($e->getMessage()); 

Could anyone please help me with this?

I removed all the files and restarted the Installation and the bug was gone...
