Thank you guys,

The problem was eventually solved. Somebody handling the web server had left some checkbox or other unchecked and that's why nothing worked.

I am having trouble setting this module up on the client's webspace.

Locally it works like charme with the given data (as seen here - only in German: https://www.ionos.de/hilfe/e-mail-office/allgemeine-themen/einstellungen-fuer-ihr-e-mail-programm/)

Locally I use SSL via port 465 (host: smtp.ionos.de)

After copying the whole processwire installation to the clients webspace I updated the hostname but then out of the sudden the SMTP server isn't reachable anymore via SSL (nor TLS). Only unecrypted connections are working. Is there anything obvious I am missing?

Thanks a lot for your support!

Is hosting provided by 1&1 as well?

If so... you could ask their support if you have to use another server/port or whatever in that case.

Have you tried another mail service like Gmail? Does that work?

If so... 1&1 might have the right answer.
if not... there is another problem.

What's the complete error message WireMailSmtp shows?

Hi,

I was wondering if there is a reply option too, not only in the back-end...

$mail->sendSingle(true)->to($toEmail, $toName)->replyto($repEmail, $repName)

similar to: $headers.= "Reply-To: $emailFrom\r\n";

Thanks!

One can set such a header entry like: $mail->header('Reply-To', 'my@replyto.address');

Yes, the site is also hosted on 1&1.

And no, also gmail does not work. So proabably something wrong with 1und1. Will ask the support.

Error message is

Quote

ERROR: SMTP settings did not work. +1
could not connect to the host "smtp.ionos.de": Connection timed out

Thanks for pointing me to the obvious things 😉

Hi Horst,

would it be possible to implement a feature that overwrites the configuration variables (server, password...) from a config or .env File?
We've got several sites that do auto-deployments to different servers based on the git branch that is used. Currently, when deploying the local development version to a staging system we're copying the dev database and need to adjust the settings by "hand" (we've written a script for that). Having a file based configuration would make it possible to just dump a file on the server and save the config variables in it.

Just in case it's helpful, this is what I do for Tracy - anything that is defined in the $config->tracy() array overwrites the settings stored in the DB.

Hi @felix, I don't want to enable plain text files with server & password settings, but going with the already needed and available site/config.php, as @adrian suggested, seems to be fine. (As it already stores the DB-credentials).

I try to look into it and implement it this weekend. I think this can be useful for a lot of us.

Announcement:

I've created a new branch on github with the requested feature by @felix. Please can you and / or anybody else try this out and give some feedback. If everything is working as expected, I will push this to the master branch.

Short introduction:

You can specify how many and what ever params you want into an array that is called $config->wirmailsmtp. Every valid key of this array will override the key of the stored modules config setting.

// example entry in site/config.php

$config->wiremailsmtp = array(
    "smtp_host"                => "smtp.example.com",
    "smtp_port"                => 587,
    "smtp_ssl"                 => 0,
    "smtp_start_tls"           => 1,
    "smtp_user"                => "yourusersname",
    "smtp_password"            => "youruserspassword",
    "extra_headers"            => array("Organization" => "Horst Nogajski - Fotografie & Webdesign", "X-Header" => "Some Content")
);

To see your resulting (merged) settings you can var_dump the output of the method getSettings():

// debug example in a template file

$mail = wireMail();
echo "<pre>";
var_dump($mail->getSettings());

wiremailsmtp-config-override.png.6fa9a907d37c147f41333cc1add60864.png

I tested it here myself and it seems to work fine.

EDIT:

I forgott to mention that I removed the required flags from the modules config settings for smtp_host and smtp_port.
This way, both settings now may stay empty in the config screen, but can be set via the $config->wiremailsmtp array. The downside would be that the modules config screen isn't that robust anymore in regard of misconfiguration.

Is this acceptable, or should there also be a required setting in the modules config screen? This is open for discussion. 🙂

The modules configscreen now is aware of overrides from the site/config.php

Hi @horst

I just wanted to draw attention to a problem that might affect some in the future if TLS (or STARTTLS) is used.

I wasn't sure where to put my concerns, so I decided to write them down in the support forum.

Some email hosting providers will shut down TLS 1.0 support in the future (or already did so). The way your module currently relies on the SMTP class (when using PHP version >= 5.6.7) it only (and exclusively) supports TLS version 1.0 (see here https://github.com/horst-n/WireMailSmtp/blob/master/smtp_classes/smtp.php#L1295).

The issue is better described by one comment on the PHP forum: https://www.php.net/manual/en/function.stream-socket-enable-crypto.php#119122.

Can you maybe integrate an option to allow specifying one of the available PHP crypto type constants?

Hopefully I don't bother you with this and maybe it is useful for somebody.

Thank you for your work in any case!

We'd like to send email from WireMailSMTP using G Suite. Google offers three different options:

https://support.google.com/a/answer/176600?hl=en

We've tried every variant we can, without success. For anyone using G Suite, which Google option works for you? What settings have you used in G Suite admin, and which settings have you used in the WireMailSMTP config?

(We have enabled the "allow less secure apps" option, and are not using 2-factor authentication.)

Your help is much appreciated.

This has been resolved. The issue was with the WHM firewall.

There is also a new $mail->debugSend() method available that you can use instead of the regular $mail->send() method.
With calling the debugSend() method in a template file you will get detailed log information like this:

Added Support for Servers|Connections without Authentication,
currently in a dev-branch: https://github.com/horst-n/WireMailSmtp/tree/allow_without_authentication

Please, if someone uses SMTP without authentication, can you try it out with enabling the new option in modules config screen and check the "Test Connection" feature with it?

Hello!

I want to include file attachments to my mails. It is not so clear to me how to achieve this.

The docs say this:

Quote

attachment ($filename, $alternativeBasename = "") - add attachment file, optionally alternative basename

So I can get the filename as value from the input field. Thats basically the name of the file itself (like "mytextfile.txt").

So then I say for example:

$mail->attachment('myfile.txt');

But this does nothing. The file is never send as an attachment. Can somebody help me how this is supposed to work?

If I need not the filename but an absolute path to the file, where can I get it? It's not included in the form POST data, isn't it?

wireMail()->attachment() needs an absolute path for every (disk) file it should attach to a message.

UPD: oh, i've missed last sentense, U know about absolute path already. You must save image from POST and then Send it, using absolute path.

UPD2: VEEERYYY bad example. You need to check uploaded file for type, size etc first. But it should work 😃

<?php
if($input->post('submit')) {
    $uploaddir = "/upload/";
    $uploadfile = $uploaddir . basename($_FILES['userfile']['name']);

    if (move_uploaded_file($_FILES['userfile']['tmp_name'], $uploadfile)) {
      $mail = wireMail();
      $mail->to("some@one.com");
      $mail->from = "me@me.io";
      $mail->subject("FILE");
      $mail->body("TAKE THIS!");
      $mail->attachment($uploadfile);
      $numSent = $mail->send();
	} else {
      echo "wtf?!";
	}

}
?>

<form enctype="multipart/form-data" action="/" method="POST">
    <input name="userfile" type="file" />
    <input name="submit" type="submit" value="Send" />
</form>

Thank you very much!

That did the trick: Include the "multipart/form-data" as enctype. That gives me access to the $_FILES array to grab some information about path and sizes.

      Happy new year, everybody 🥬
      I've been sitting on this Dashboard module I made for a client and finally came around to cleaning it up and releasing it to the wider public. This is how it looks.
      ProcessWire Dashboard

      If anyone is interested in trying this out, please go ahead! I'd love to get some feedback on it. If this proves useful and survives some real-world testing, I'll add this to the module directory.
      Download
      You can find the latest release on Github.
      Documentation
      Check out the documentation to get started. This is where you'll find information about included panel types and configuration options.
      Custom Panels
      My goal was to make it really simple to create custom panels. The easiest way to do that is to use the panel type template and have it render a file in your templates folder. This might be enough for 80% of all use cases. For anything more complex (FormBuilder submissions? Comments? Live chat?), you can add new panel types by creating modules that extend the DashboardPanel base class. Check out the documentation on custom panels or take a look at the HelloWorld panel to get started. I'm happy to merge any user-created modules into the main repo if they might be useful to more than a few people.
       Disclaimer
      This is a pre-release version. Please treat it as such — don't install it on production sites. Just making sure 🍇
      Roadmap
      These are the things I'm looking to implement myself at some point. The wishlist is a lot longer, but those are the 80/20 items that I probably won't regret spending time on.
      Improve documentation & add examples ⚙️ Panel types Google Analytics ⚙️ Add new page  🔥 Drafts 🔥 At a glance / Page counter 404s  Layout options Render multiple tabs per panel panel groups with heading and spacing between ✅ panel wrappers as grid item (e.g. stacked notices) ✅ Admin themes support AdminThemeReno and AdminThemeDefault ✅ Shortcuts panel add a table layout with icon, title & summary ✅ Chart panel add default styles for common chart types ✅ load chart data from JS file (currently passed as PHP array) Collection panel support image columns ✅ add buttons: view all & add new ✅

      This module is inspired by and similar to the Template Stubs module. The author of that module has not been active in the PW community for several years now and parts of the code for that module didn't make sense to me, so I decided to create my own module. Auto Template Stubs has only been tested with PhpStorm because that is the IDE that I use.
      Auto Template Stubs
      Automatically creates stub files for templates when fields or fieldgroups are saved.
      Stub files are useful if you are using an IDE (e.g. PhpStorm) that provides code assistance - the stub files let the IDE know what fields exist in each template and what data type each field returns. Depending on your IDE's features you get benefits such as code completion for field names as you type, type inference, inspection, documentation, etc.
      Installation
      Install the Auto Template Stubs module.
      Configuration
      You can change the class name prefix setting in the module config if you like. It's good to use a class name prefix because it reduces the chance that the class name will clash with an existing class name.
      The directory path used to store the stub files is configurable.
      There is a checkbox to manually trigger the regeneration of all stub files if needed.
      Usage
      Add a line near the top of each of your template files to tell your IDE what stub class name to associate with the $page variable within the template file. For example, with the default class name prefix you would add the following line at the top of the home.php template file:
      /** @var tpl_home $page */ Now enjoy code completion, etc, in your IDE.

      Adding data types for non-core Fieldtype modules
      The module includes the data types returned by all the core Fieldtype modules. If you want to add data types returned by one or more non-core Fieldtype modules then you can hook the AutoTemplateStubs::getReturnTypes() method. For example, in /site/ready.php:
      // Add data types for some non-core Fieldtype modules $wire->addHookAfter('AutoTemplateStubs::getReturnTypes', function(HookEvent $event) { $extra_types = [ 'FieldtypeDecimal' => 'string', 'FieldtypeLeafletMapMarker' => 'LeafletMapMarker', 'FieldtypeRepeaterMatrix' => 'RepeaterMatrixPageArray', 'FieldtypeTable' => 'TableRows', ]; $event->return = $event->return + $extra_types; }); Credits
      Inspired by and much credit to the Template Stubs module by mindplay.dk.

      Jumplinks for ProcessWire
      Release: 1.5.60
      Composer: rockett/jumplinks
      ⚠️ NOTICE: 1.5.60 is an important security patch-release for an XSS vulnerability discovered by @phlp. It's HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that all Jumplinks users update to the latest version as soon as possible.
      Jumplinks is an enhanced version of the original ProcessRedirects by Antti Peisa.
      The Process module manages your permanent and temporary redirects (we'll call these "jumplinks" from now on, unless in reference to redirects from another module), useful for when you're migrating over to ProcessWire from another system/platform. Each jumplink supports wildcards, shortening the time needed to create them.
      Unlike similar modules for other platforms, wildcards in Jumplinks are much easier to work with, as Regular Expressions are not fully exposed. Instead, parameters wrapped in curly braces are used - these are described in the documentation.
      Under Development: 2.0, to be powered by FastRoute
      As of version 1.5.0, Jumplinks requires at least ProcessWire 2.6.1 to run.
      View on GitLab
      Download via the Modules Directory
      Read the docs
      Features
      The most prominent features include:
      Basic jumplinks (from one fixed route to another) Parameter-based wildcards with "Smart" equivalents Mapping Collections (for converting ID-based routes to their named-equivalents without the need to create multiple jumplinks) Destination Selectors (for finding and redirecting to pages containing legacy location information) Timed Activation (activate and/or deactivate jumplinks at specific times) 404-Monitor (for creating jumplinks based on 404 hits) Additionally, the following features may come in handy:
      Stale jumplink management Legacy domain support for slow migrations An importer (from CSV or ProcessRedirects) Feedback & Feature Requests
      I’d love to know what you think of this module. Please provide some feedback on the module as a whole, or even regarding smaller things that make it whole. Also, please feel free to submit feature requests and their use-cases.
      Note: Features requested so far have been added to the to-do list, and will be added to 2.0, and not the current dev/master branches.
      Open Source

      Jumplinks is an open-source project, and is free to use. In fact, Jumplinks will always be open-source, and will always remain free to use. Forever. If you would like to support the development of Jumplinks, please consider making a small donation via PayPal.
      Enjoy! 🙂

      Allows images/files to be added to Image/File fields by pasting URLs.

      Usage
      Install the Add Image URLs module.
      A "Paste URLs" button will be added to all image and file fields. Use the button to show a textarea where URLs may be pasted, one per line. Images/files are added when the page is saved.
