Screen casting software

What software do people like for showing off their modules, websites etc.? I have tried the (free version of) screencast-o-matic and Clipchamp but neither really suits me. The former is a bit simple whereas the latter is rather complex. I'd like to be able to record activity on a screen, pause the recording while I gather my thoughts or segue to a different sequence, add captions (or maybe audio) and cut or append videos.

Any suggestions?

If you're on Mac, you can try/buy https://www.araelium.com/screenflick-mac-screen-recorder. I'm just using it for basic screen recording but it seems it could do what you need (except for "append videos" maybe), plus it can be simple enough.

If on Mac, I use ScreenFlow. I think it's a bit pricey but for me it hits the sweet spot in being easy to use and richness in features, in particular I really dig it includes a non linear editor.

On Linux I'm using a combination of

1. https://www.maartenbaert.be/simplescreenrecorder/ (available for most distros)
2. https://www.openshot.org/ (also available for Windows/Mac)

Have been looking for a all-in-one solution for a long time. https://obsproject.com/ is a complete solution but it is rather complex for the simple task of creating screencasts.

SimpleScreenRecorder allows pause/resume and Openshot is a great easy to use tool for editing / adding captions etc.
