Allow any member to sell premium modules

Recommended Posts

Currently working on a premium module and I would love to be able to sell it through the PW store (currently not possible) and maybe have the store handle code creation.

Yes it is indeed an option and nice to have but i would vote for opening the official store for 3rd party module developers.

Please consider this @ryan

  • It would motivate more professionals to develop amazing modules for ProcessWire.
  • For newcomers it would be easier to actually find the plugins they need.
  • I usually prefer paid modules because I feel more safe when it comes to support / updates. (But currently I'm forced to use some weird unofficial selfmade stores which is not supporting the feeling of safety and trust that I'm looking for as a customer)
  • Support requests for these modules could go into their dedicated VIP Support Forums just like with Ryan's Pro Modules. (The whole community could benefit from already answered questions easily ...)

I could keep going on but I'm sure it is not even necessary. Everyone can make up their own mind on this topic for sure.

Just one more thing I want to add:

I much prefer to support Ryan with a referral fee for each sold item instead of anyone else.

While I agree that a one and only "official store" would be great and help ProcessWire to prosper, I suggest that developers willing to sell such modules should unite :)

Consider that Ryan is a human too, with only 24 hours a day to use up ;) meaning: implementing, maintaining and running the store requires extra effort and time which might be a mayor constrain here, hence my suggestion of doing it as a teamwork and sharing the benefits as well.

Currently we have: https://processwireshop.pw/ and https://processwire.com/talk/store/

Although it would be welcome to see the two "merged", I guess it is not as easy as it sounds.

Of course you are right @szabesz. I can understand why we don't have it yet. I just wanted Ryan to really consider it and to know that there are people that would be happy to support him with a referral fee or something.

That's the point I'm not quite sure about. Have a look at https://invisioncommunity.com/features/commerce#elCommerce_marketplaceContainer
(This is a feature of the forum software processwire.com/talk/ is using)

The board works great so I guess the feature might do what it's supposed to do out of the box quite well?

I think it would be great to start the marketplace precisely by doing it with Processwire as a module, then that module is also on offer as a platform demonstration. Maybe?

(from) $30/month? Maybe it is worth it, hard to tell.

Well the pricing depends on the setup (cloud / self-hosted) and the number of users. It could be the case that the feature is already included in the current plan. (cloud) If not we're looking at a one time payment of 100$ + 70$ / year. (Self hosted)

Maybe it's not worth it right now but I'm pretty sure it would be in the future, when more premium modules arrive. (The fact that there aren't too many available right now is another sign that we need a strong, open and official marketplace thought)

And who knows: Maybe Ryan even has a special sponsorship deal or something like that with them and it would be for free ... :-)

Can we not simply use the /talk/store and have a submission process? the processwireshop.pw looks to different from the PW site and might put people off and look not "official" (which was the case when i went there to buy something then didnt).

Hi, does @ryan or anyone else have anymore progress or opinion on this, as i think it is a somewhat polarising subject.

I believe having lots of different stores would be bad for processwire (as im not very keen on using the https://processwireshop.pw/  store). It would be preferable to have a one stop shop for all modules including premium IMO.

      Hi there,
I am new to PW but already very convinced. I need to build a dropdown button to browse in a collection of authors by country and language. The dropdown should be editable in the BACK and displayed on the same as the authors collection. I tried my luck with "PageField Creator" but I don't know how to display the dropdown, I simply used:
"$content .=$page->Land;" (the name of the select field)
      but nothing is displayed...
I see there is a 2nd module out there to achieve this : "Select Options Fieldtype". I am not sure what is the difference, anyone has a tip?
And a clear tutorial with the necessary steps to build this? I am a bit confused which should be the parent template or page, if it should have a file or not...
      Thanks a lot in advance!

      👋 PW Pros…
I have some hooks that I need to bind at the init phase (or even __construct) and I was wondering, and I couldn't find a good and simple way to determine if I'm in the admin. Would be nice if there is a reliable short option to do so, but I can't seem to find one… Is there a coherent way to tell this no matter where I am?
Right now, I use the following method inside one of my modules:
public function isAdmin($page = null) { if ( strpos($this->input->url, $this->urls->admin) !== false || $this->process instanceof ProcessPageList || $this->process instanceof ProcessPageEdit || ($page instanceof Page && $page->rootParent->id == $this->config->adminRootPageID) ) { return true; } return false; } @ryan wouldn't it be nice to have something like wire()->isAdmin(); like wire()->user->isLoggedin(); to tell if we are in admin – very early on (probably even in __construct() phase of modules?

      Hi!
Been doing some basic Twilio implementation for a client to enable them to automatically send text messages to registered users on page publish. As an upshot, I thought I would strip out the site specific work and stick up on github here: https://github.com/benbyford/TwilioChannels
This modules pulls in the Twilio APi and enables you to send SMS messages from your front or backend.
Send SMS message Truncate message to single message character limit Auto-select number from range of numbers depending on $To number country of origin–this enables you to send messages with a local number to that user if one added to the config. Templates usage:
      $twilio = $modules->get("TwilioChannels"); $twilio->sendSMS($toNumber, $message);

What is the best practice for having a form (only accessible to a logged in user) save the user's progress between sections of the form? Fieldsets? Multiple forms?
Use case: I have a very long application form that would take 30 minutes for the applicant to fill out and I would hate for all progress to be lost due to user error. The progress needs to be logged into the user's page.
      Thanks!
