Stumbled at the first hurdle - setup failed on Xampp

Hello folks, a slightly embarrassing entry on this forum with a failed setup on Xampp - perhaps someone can point me in the right direction?

I downloaded and installed Xampp for OS X  and this seems to run fine - when I go to http://localhost the Xampp page loads nicely.

I then went to the Bitnami Xampp page and downloaded the PW Module for OS X. I walk through the install and leave the path to the default /Applications/XAMPP,  enter my OS X admin pass, it then says it will restart the installer, enter admin pass again, leave the path as default and when I click on next it simply does nothing, I can still change the path or cancel the install and that's it.

Any clues as to what I'm doing wrong? :-[

Many thanks!

Konrad

Hello @Konrad, welcome to the Forums,

If I understand you correctly, you have a Bitnami Xampp setup problem, right? Which is at this stage, not yet related to ProcessWire as such. Such an issue fits well our "Dev Talk" section, not this one, but anyway you are probably better off posting such issues here (or maybe a XAMPP community forum?):

https://community.bitnami.com/

Do not get me wrong, I do not want to turn you down, you might find someone here with experience in Bitnami/Xampp. I myself have not used it for ages. If you cannot make it work, I recommend MAMP which is relatively easy to get working.

As a side note so Windows users are not put off reading this, it's a breeze to do in XAMPP too. I use MAMP on the laptop and XAMPP on the desktop (windows or linux) and I don't find one easier than the other. The only real difference I've ever seen is that in XAMPP you have to manually set the document root in http.conf and you can't change the ports as easily.

I think the moral of the story is just don't use Bitnami ;)
