Tracy Debugger

Recommended Posts

@Ipa and @tpr - can you please try the latest version and see if that error is now gone?

Speaking of the latest version, it includes a few new features.

  1. The ability to force superusers to always be in DEVELOPMENT mode, even on a live site.

  2. The ability to restrict non-superusers by their IP address - this is very useful if you need to debug a live site for a guest (or non-superuser role) and want the debugger bar and other features normally restricted to development mode. You can set the mode to DEVELOPMENT, give the user the "tracey-debugger" permission, and then restrict to your current IP address.

  3. The Users panel provides details of IP Address restriction so you can always easily check if you're safe.

i just installed tracy and had some problems:

im on 2.7.2 and installation went without problems. but i can't see the debug bar. neither on frontend nor on backend. i tried with a different browser because i have some problems with visibility sometimes on my laptop and got the following error on the pw-login screen:

debug->true

Fatal error: Cannot use object of type TracyDebugger as array in /var/www/.../site/modules/TracyDebugger/TracyDebugger.module on line 476

Error: Cannot use object of type TracyDebugger as array (line 476 of /var/www/.../site/modules/TracyDebugger/TracyDebugger.module)

This error message was shown because site is in debug mode ($config->debug = true; in /site/config.php). Error has been logged.

debug->false

Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Error has been logged.

besides those errors: do i have to do some additional things to see the tracy bar?

thanks for your help :)

The original problem has not gone. At the moment all the frontend pages give me the error: "Class 'ProcessWire\TracyDebugger' not found". I have even tried to reinstall the module, but it doesn't help. I don't see the version mismatch on the upgrades page anymore.

<?php 57: if(class_exists('TracyDebugger')) {

58: \ProcessWire\wire('templateVars', TracyDebugger::templateVars(get_defined_vars(), \ProcessWire\wire('page')));

59: }

@BernhardB - are you using the latest version? Also, what version of PHP are you using - I wonder if there might be something connected with that?

@Ipa - can you please try emptying the site/assets/cache/FileCompiler/site/templates folder and see if it starts working after that?

@BernhardB

Try setting Output Mode to "DEVELOPMENT"

hi adrian,

PHP Version 5.4.45 and tracy 0.5.4

the error came when i tried to reach the admin in a different browser where i was NOT logged in. in the browser where i installed tracy it seemed that everything worked but i could not see the debug panel. don't know if that's somehow related so my laptop or if i did not setup it correctly? i checked both checkboxes (frontend + backend)

The problem is with Show Variables Panel setting. After clearing the compiled files from cache with the Show Variables Panel setting off, everything works. But when I enable the Show Variables Panel, the error is back.

Yeah, it is that feature which is responsible for adding that line to the bottom of the compiled templates - I just don't yet know why you are still getting the error and @tpr isn't and I have never seen it :) What version of PW and PHP are you running?

Glad it's working now - thanks for letting me know. What do you mean about it being related to your browser?

Awesome - thanks for letting me know.

I did just make another change though in an attempt to fix the problem @Ipa is still having with the Variables panel. Hopefully this might work and hopefully I haven't broken anything for anyone else :)

Sorry, but it still doesn't work for me. I have PHP 5.5.29, PW 3.0.8 and Mac OS X 10.10.5.

I switched to PHP 5.5.26 (that is the closest to 5.5.29 I happen have at the moment). I am also on OS X 10.10.5 but this should not matter too much I guess. I also updated to 0.5.6. Actually I have just realized, that although I do not get any errors with $Variables Panel turned on, it does not display any variables except for a strange empty array, like this:

array ()

That is all I have in the panel, however – for example – I have $title = $page->get('headline|title'); in my _init.php and <?= $title ?> outputs fine. Shouldn't it be a variable that is displayed in this panel?

@Ipa - did you clear your FileCompiler templates cache after installing the new version? - this is essential to ensure the new version of the code is added into the templates when they are compiled.

Sorry, I should have made it more obvious that for this feature to work, you need to clear your compiled templates cache as it needs to add a line to the bottom of the compiled template. Once you do this once, it will work for future updates to your templates.

Thanks. I manually cleaned .../site/assets/cache/FileCompiler/site/modules and got fatal error as the class TracyDebugger was not found. (Class 'ProcessWire\TracyDebugger' not found). And using Admin > Modules > Site > [Clear Compiled Files] button afterwards did not help.

Deleting the FileCompiler folder itself gets rid of the error, but my original problem (that is not seeing any variables in the panel) remained.

One more thing. If I manually delete .../site/assets/cache/FileCompiler/site/modules and do not resave the module settings afterwards but try to reload the forntend, then the Fatal Error is back againg.

What is folder permission for cache/FileCompiler?

I cleared the cache both manually and with the button at Site -> Modules settings. The problem remains. I have also the empty array() in my $Variables panel.

What is folder permission for cache/FileCompiler?

This is my local machine and I run Apache as my own user so that I always have read/write permissions while developing.

You need to empty .../site/assets/cache/FileCompiler/site/templates, not .../site/assets/cache/FileCompiler/site/modules

Please tell me that works :)

Yes, I have deleted files in site/assets/cache/FileCompiler/site/templates and it still gives those errors….

So the line added to the end of my compiled template files currently looks like:

if(class_exists('TracyDebugger')) {
    TracyDebugger::$templateVars = TracyDebugger::templateVars(get_defined_vars(), \ProcessWire\wire('page'));
}

Does that match what you are currently seeing?

What if you manually add \ProcessWire\ in front of each TracyDebugerr, like this - just do it for one of the compiled template files and load a page with that template - this is just a test for me at the moment to help debug.

if(class_exists('\ProcessWire\TracyDebugger')) {
    \ProcessWire\TracyDebugger::$templateVars = \ProcessWire\TracyDebugger::templateVars(get_defined_vars(), \ProcessWire\wire('page'));
}

I feel like I am going off on a tangent here, but what happens if you also add false to that check, eg:

if(class_exists('\ProcessWire\TracyDebugger', false)) {
    \ProcessWire\TracyDebugger::$templateVars = \ProcessWire\TracyDebugger::templateVars(get_defined_vars(), \ProcessWire\wire('page'));
}

      I am happy to present my new fieldtype FieldtypeImageFromPage. It is made up of 2 modules:
      Fieldtype Image Reference From Another Page is a Fieldtype that stores a reference to a single image from another page. The image can be selected with the associated Inputfield.
      Inputfield Select Image From Page is an Inputfield to select a single image from images on a predefined page and it's children.
      And there also is a helper module that takes care of cleanup tasks.
      This module evolved out of a discussion about my other Module FieldtypeImagePicker.  It caters for use cases where a set of images is being reused multiple times across a site. With this fieldtype these images can be administered through a chosen page. All images uploaded to that page will be available in the inputfield.
      When to use ?
      Let editors choose an image from a set of images that is being used site-wide. Ideal for images that are being re-used across the site.
      Suited for images that are used on multiple pages throughout the site (e.g. icons).
      Other than the native ProcessWire images field, the images here are not stored per page. Only references to images on another page are stored. This has several advantages:
      one central place to organize images when images change, you only have to update them in one place. All references will be updated, too. (Provided the name of the image that has changed stays the same) Features
      Images can be manipulated like native ProcessWire images (resizing, cropping etc.) Image names are fully searchable through the API Accidental image deletion is prevented. When you want to delete an image from one of the pages that hold your site-wide images, the module searches all pages that use that image. If any page contains a reference to the image you are trying to delete, deletion will be prevented. You will get an error message to help you edit those pages and remove references there before you can finally delete the image. How to install and setup
      Download and install this module like any other modules in ProcessWire Create a page in the page tree that will hold your images. This page's template must have an images field Upload some images to the page you created in step 2 Create a new field. As type choose 'Image Reference From Another Page'. Save the field. In 'Details' Tab of the field choose the page you created in step 2 Click Save button Choose the images field name for the field that holds your images (on page template from step 2) Click Save button again Choose whether you want to include child pages of page from step 2 to supply images Add the field to any template You are now ready to use the field View of the inputfield on the page edit screen:

      View of the field settings

      The module can be installed from this github repo. Some more info in the README there, too.
      In my tests it was fairly stable. After receiving your valued feedback, I will eventually add it to the modules directory.
      My ideas for further improvement:
      - add ajax loading of thumbnails
      Happy to hear your feedback!

      Although the PW backend is really intuitive, ever so often my clients need some assistance. Be it they are not so tech savvy or they are not working in the backend often.
      For those cases it is nice to make some help videos available to editors. This is what this module does.
      ProcessHelpVideos Module
      A Process module to display help videos for the ProcessWire CMS. It can be used to make help videos (screencasts) available to content editors.
      This module adds a 'Help Videos" section to the ProcessWire backend. The help videos are accessible through an automatically created page in the Admin page tree. You can add your help videos as pages in the page tree. The module adds a hidden page to the page tree that acts as parent page for the help video pages. All necessary fields and templates will be installed automatically. If there are already a CKEditor field and/or a file field for mp4 files installed in the system, the module will use those. Otherwise it will create the necessary fields. Also the necessary templates for the parent help videos page and it's children are created on module install. The module installs a permission process-helpvideos. Every user role that should have access to the help video section, needs this permission. I use the help video approach on quite a few production sites. It is stable so far and well received by site owners/editors. Up until now I installed required fields, templates and pages manually and then added the module. Now I added all this logic to the install method of the module and it should be ready to share.
      The module and further description on how to use it is available on github: https://github.com/gebeer/ProcessHelpVideos
      If you like to give it a try, I am happy to receive your comments/suggestions here.

      A module created in response to the topic here:
      Page List Select Multiple Quickly
      Modifies PageListSelectMultiple to allow you to select multiple pages without the tree closing every time you select a page.
      The screencast says it all:

      Hello all,
      sharing my new module FieldtypeImagePicker. It provides a configurable input field for choosing any type of image from a predefined folder.
      The need for it came up because a client had a custom SVG icon set and I wanted the editors to be able to choose an icon in the page editor.
      It can also be used to offer a choice of images that are used site-wide without having to upload them to individual pages.
      There are no image manipulation methods like with the native PW image field.
      Module and full description can be found on github https://github.com/gebeer/FieldtypeImagePicker
      Kudos to @Martijn Geerts. I used his module FieldTypeSelectFile as a base to build upon.
      Here's how the input field looks like in the page editor:

      Hope it can be of use to someone.
      If you like to give it a try, I'm happy to hear your comments or suggestions for improvement. Eventually this will go in the module directory soon, too.

      @Sergio asked about the pdf creation process in the showcase thread about my 360° feedback/survey tool and so I went ahead and set my little pdf helper module to public.
