Is there any reason they can't just return true, rather than returning $this->renderMarkup($page, $field); ?

Hi @adrian,

 ___wakeupValue is needed for frontend access. I am assuming some people use the field in the frontend.   ___sleepValue should be able to work with return true only. I'll have to investigate deeper though. The whole module is based on Ryan's concat field. These methods were copied as is (or almost) from that module. So, his module must be having the same issues then.

I'll have a look sometime. Still no ETA though, sorry.

Taking a further look, I agree that wakeupValue is needed in case someone does use on the frontend, but I can't see a need for loadPageField() - so if it was limited to just wakeupValue then it would reduce processing of the code to just once.

I am noticing that the renderMarkup() method is called many times on the currently edited page and it's also called on page reference fields on the page being edited. This makes for a lot of calls to this method that don't seem necessary as far as I can tell. Do you think this can be improved?

As an example, I put: bd($page->id); at the top of that method and saw this:

@adrian,

I have tested and cannot replicate this. I tested with both single and multi page reference fields using different inputs (Asm, Checkboxes, etc). I also tested using render via code and via wire('files')->render('some-file'). This is what I get if I put bd($page->id) at the top of renderMarkup().

rm-dump-tracy.png.1513da23878639171af413146d9e11b2.png

1367 is the ID of the page being edited. The pages saved in the page reference fields are not called.

Edit

I think there is something else going on in your install. There is nothing peculiar about the field. Apart from renderMarkup(), all the other methods are ProcessWire Field methods. Theoretically, it means if a bug exists, then all Fields should be exhibiting the same behaviour.

loadPageField() is required to stop the field from visiting the database. There is a comment right there in the method :).

Quote

// generate value at runtime rather than loading from DB

If we remove the method, it will just call its parent loadPageField() (Fieldtype.php). Hence, we override it. We can have it return true. That results in renderMarkup() being called once only (rather than twice currently - once each for wakeupValue() and loadPageField()).

I've tried to change the title of the page and it works

$page->set('title', 'New title');
$page->save();
return "";

but when I try to change an inputfield of type text it doesn't

$page->my_field = '22223333';
// $page->my_field->attr('value', '22223333'); neither works
$page->save();
return "";

any advice, thanks.

Is any way to get the value of a field (Runtimemarkup) from a template :

$out .= strtoupper(dechex(strtotime(date("Y-m-d H:i:s", $page->created))));
return $out;

I'm getting the following error:

Field 'code_codigo' is runtime and not queryable

Looking at the code, it seem not :

public function getMatchQuery($query, $table, $subfield, $operator, $value) {
		// we don't allow this field to be queried
		throw new WireException("Field '{$query->field->name}' is runtime and not queryable");
}

Yes you can get the value. See the examples in the first page, first post of this topic. However, you cannot use a selector to query the value.

Yes, you cannot use a selector to query it, but you can access the value.

For frontend, only pasted PHP code option is supported. My take is that this module is primarily used for the backend. Use of the render files option is geared for creating complex and/or more flexible backend apps as opposed to frontend usage. I have no intention of changing this behaviour.

Would be nice if it is consistent – I use this Field for both, backend and frontend and would love to have the code inside php files.

the dev version

This is the description for the dev version. Did not work for me. Ended up with the master and:

namespace Processwire;
return wireRenderFile('fields/'.$field->name, ['page' => $page]);

whatever version i'm using works great and has the option to use files and not pasted code, in the field config.. i thought it was the dev branch.. very stable and i have it running on 5 projects now, basically this is a completely indispensable module, i usually end up with on average 10-15 RM fields on any given project..

True, it's a great module. But does it work for you in the frontend with files? Because as @kongondo said here:

Works fine for me here with the dev version, but should also work with the master version (IIRC - sorry, it's been a while since I touched this). Tested in PW 3.0.85. Here's my copy pasted PHP code:

// both of these work
/*namespace Processwire;
return wireRenderFile('runtime-markup-wirerender-test');
*/
return ProcessWire\wireRenderFile('runtime-markup-wirerender-test');

The above allows you to have your code inside PHP files. This is the pasted PHP option. It is supported in both front- and back-end. It also allows you to use PHP files, but indirectly. It is not to be confused by the other (currently dev) option of directly rendering PHP files (i.e., just stating name of the PHP file and its path.

Are you getting any errors? Tracy?

In the template file I echo the field's value like so:

echo $page->runtime_markup;

Hi @kongondo

No, this works just fine. But this is "pasted PHP code" – since you introduced the option to specify files on the dev Version, it would be nice to use this option also in the frontend;

Current status:

Dev Version:

– include files using module: Backend √ + Frontend X
– Past Code: Backend √ + Frontend √

Master Version:

– Include files using module: Backend X + Frontend X
– Past Code: Backend √ + Frontend √

Desired status 😉

Master Version:

– include files using module: Backend √ + Frontend √
– Past Code: Backend √ + Frontend √

OK. I'll have a look. Could you please file it as a request on GitHub? It will help remind me, thanks.

Thank you for developing this useful module, now i can send email to certain user from admin easily, inspired from here :

For those who need more explanation:
Button is actually <a href> to template which will open new page (yes very ugly behaviour, read below) contain custom php code , not inside <form> action because <form> not allowed inside textarea.

To prevent opening new page when click the button, make an <iframe> inside the template as a target button, that's it, beautifully execution like native form in admin page.

      (once again I was surprised to see a work of mine pop up in the newsletter, this time without even listing the module on PW modules website 😅. Thx @teppo !)
      FieldtypeQRCode
      Github: https://github.com/romaincazier/FieldtypeQRCode
      Modules directory: https://processwire.com/modules/fieldtype-qrcode/
      A simple fieldtype generating a QR Code from the public URL of the page, and more.
      Using the PHP library QR Code Generator by Kazuhiko Arase.

      Options
      In the field’s Details tab you can change between .gif or .svg formats. If you select .svg you will have the option to directly output the markup instead of a base64 image. SVG is the default.
      You can also change what is used to generate the QR code and even have several sources. The accepted sources (separated by a comma) are: httpUrl, editUrl, or the name of any text/URL/file/image field.
      If LanguageSupport is installed the compatible sources (httpUrl, text field, ...) will return as many QR codes as there are languages. Note however that when outputting on the front-end, only the languages visible to the user will be generated.
      Formatting
      Unformatted value
      When using $page->getUnformatted("qrcode_field") it returns an array with the following structure:
      [ [ "label" => string, // label used in the admin "qr" => string, // the qrcode image "source" => string, // the source, as defined in the configuration "text" => string // and the text used to generate the qrcode ], ... ] Formatted value
      The formatted value is an <img>/<svg> (or several right next to each other). There is no other markup.
      Should you need the same markup as in the admin you could use:
      $field = $fields->get("qrcode_field"); $field->type->markupValue($page, $field, $page->getUnformatted("qrcode_field")); But it’s a bit cumbersome, plus you need to import the FieldtypeQRCode's css/js. Best is to make your own markup using the unformatted value.
      Static QR code generator
      You can call FieldtypeQRCode::generateQRCode to generate any QR code you want. Its arguments are:
      string $text bool $svg Generate the QR code as svg instead of gif ? (default=true) bool $markup If svg, output its markup instead of a base64 ? (default=false) Hooks
      Please have a look at the source code for more details about the hookable functions.
      Examples
      $wire->addHookAfter("FieldtypeQRCode::getQRText", function($event) { $page = $event->arguments("page"); $event->return = $page->title; // or could be: $event->return = "Your custom text"; }) $wire->addHookAfter("FieldtypeQRCode::generateQRCodes", function($event) { $qrcodes = $event->return; // keep everything except the QR codes generated from editUrl foreach($qrcodes as $key => &$qrcode) { if($qrcode["source"] === "editUrl") { unset($qrcodes[$key]); } } unset($qrcode); $event->return = $qrcodes; })

      AppApiFile adds the /file endpoint to the AppApi routes definition. Makes it possible to query files via the api.
      This module relies on the base module AppApi, which must be installed before AppApiFile can do its work.
      Features
      You can access all files that are uploaded at any ProcessWire page. Call api/file/route/in/pagetree?file=test.jpg to access a page via its route in the page tree. Alternatively you can call api/file/4242?file=test.jpg (e.g.,) to access a page by its id. The module will make sure that the page is accessible by the active user.
      The GET-param "file" defines the basename of the file which you want to get.
      The following GET-params (optional) can be used to manipulate an image:
      width height maxwidth maxheight cropX cropY Use GET-Param format=base64 to receive the file in base64 format.

      This fieldtype and inputfield bundle was built for storing measurement values within a field, rendering them in a variety of formats and converting them to other units or otherwise modifying them via the API.
      The API consists of a number of predefined functions, some of which include...
      render() for rendering the measurement object, valueAs() for converting the value to another unit value, convertTo() for converting the whole measurement object to different units, and add() and subtract() for for modifying the stored value by the value (converted as required) in another measurement. In the admin the inputfield includes a checkbox (which can be optionally disabled) for converting values on page save. For an example if a value was typed in as centimeters, the unit was changed to metres, and the page saved with this checkbox selected, said value would be automatically converted so that e.g. 170 cm becomes 1.7 m.

      A simple length field using Fieldtype Measurement and Inputfield Measurement.
      Combination units (e.g. feet and inches) are also supported.
      Please note that this module is 'proof of concept' at the moment - there are limited units available and quite a lot of code tidying to do. More units will be added shortly.
      See the GitHub at https://github.com/MetaTunes/FieldtypeMeasurement for full details and updates.

      This module implements the website live chat service from tawk.to. Actually the module doesn't have to do much. It just need to inserted a few lines of JavaScript just before the closing body tag </body> on each side. However, the module offers additional options to display the widget only on certain pages.
      Create an account
      Visit https://www.tawk.to and create an account. It's free! At some point you will reach a page where you can copy the required JavaScript-code.

      Open the module settings and paste the JavaScript-code into the field as shown below. Click "Submit" and that's all.

      Open the module settings
      The settings for this module are located int the menu Modules=>Configure=>LiveChatTawkTo.
