Blank screen after installation

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I made a site on localhost and after migrating I get blank screen on frontend and backend too. Tried with a fresh copy too and after installing it I got the same problem. During installation everything looks great.

- Debug mode is true

- Tried in subfolder and then in root too.

- There are no messages in error log.

- Sessions are created in site/assets/sessions/ -> I think it's not a permission related problem and processwire could be initialized

- .htaccess is working

Any hints what could be the problem? I've worked with several ProcessWire sites and I had no this issue before, but it's the first time installing on windows server with apache.

Sorry you are having problems.  Here are a couple of weblinks that you should check out:

I 've printed a PW config variable on index.php and works correctly. It's also printed on backend URL, so the routing and initializing processwire works fine.

If it's server configuration problem I think not an obvious one. We could run other systems like Concrete5 and Statamic properly on this system. But I couldn't find out what could be the problem. There is no error message, nothing more just blank pages.

blank pages, - but with what HTTP response code?

Which profile has you installed?

I'm running PW on windows with apache2, too. No problems here.

Where do you have the .htaccess file placed when running PW from root? Is it combined with other rules, or is it only the PW distributed one?

1. It returns with 200 response code, so everything is fine there.

2. First time when I migrated from an another host I created with Blank profile. Then I tried to install a fresh copy of the latest PW with Classic profile. Each site had same issue. I tried to install in a subfolder and then in the root too. .htaccess was not combined.

If I print a $config variable or a $pages variable in index.php(!) it works well, but templates and nothing else is loaded. For example the $page variable doesn't even exist. I think the problem is not with the Rewrite, because the variables mentioned above are printed on every url. So routing works well.

When I add wrong database details, errors messages are shown correctly, so the site is connected to the database. (+ I can print for example $pages->get(1)->title in index.php)

The site I try to migrate works everywhere excluding this server.

I have never seen this problem before. I've already built several sites with PW. And it's really strange, no error messages. just plain pages. It looks nothing else is loaded after index.php and config.php.

One more thing. When I run the following code:

$rootPath = dirname(__FILE__);
echo "RootPath:".$rootPath."</br>";
if(DIRECTORY_SEPARATOR != '/') $rootPath = str_replace(DIRECTORY_SEPARATOR, '/', $rootPath);
echo "NewRootPath:".$rootPath."</br>";
echo "HTTP_HOST:".$_SERVER['HTTP_HOST']."<br/>";
$rootURL = isset($_SERVER['HTTP_HOST']) ? substr($rootPath, strlen(rtrim($_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'], '/'))) . '/' : '/';
echo "RootURL:".$rootURL;

I got the following result:

Can't windows backslashes cause a problem like this?

I asked the php and apache error log from system administrator.

Not found anything in apache and php error log. But when I add $page->title to index.php I got the value of 404 Not Found page.

dirname(__FILE__) points to E:\...

and DOCUMENT_ROOT to C:\...

It is solved. The problem was the different RootPath and DOCUMENT_ROOT. I can't exactly say why it happened because we have just reported the different paths to the server administrator. But now everything works well.

Thanks to everyone for tips.

      Could anyone advise me on the following system requirements, which I am missing for ProcessWire installation:
      DO (pdo_mysql) is required (for MySQL database)
      Fail: GD 2.0 or newer  Fail: JSON support ZipArchive support was not found. This is recommended, but not required to complete installation.

      During the install process I can never get to Step 4 for setting up an admin account.
      It creates the database and in the screen it shows it installed the database and imported the SQL
      and under that it shows "Profile Import" but nothing else.
      I have the same result with master & dev branch.
      I looked in the database and do not see a user table of any kind, unless it has some other name than "users"

      Hi Guys,
      I'm trying to do my first migration to the customers existing server (IIS 10) . I ran the site as a subdirectory on my website for test purposes (everything works fine).
      Following the tutorial of Joss, I tryed the site on a local xampp server to make sure, it also works on a root directory. So far so good, everything works.
      Now I moved the files (from the xampp) to the customers server. The root/index page is shown but for every subpage i get 404 Errors...
      Hence I followed the troubleshooting guide for not working URLs:
      On the first sight, the .htaccess file is not recognized, therefore I contacted the host support. They said, it is recognized but not all modules are supported in the processwire .htaccess file. I did the "öalskjfdoal" test in the .htaccess file and didn't get a 500 Error.... BUT the rewrite rule from the hosts support, to proof the file is read, DID work... The support claims, they do not provide debugging... so basically the .htaccess file is recognized and working, but not throwing any errors (for whatever reason).
      Working rewrite rule (from support):
      RewriteEngine On RewriteBase / RewriteRule ^test\.asp$ index.html [NC,L] RewriteRule ^test\.html$ konzept.html [NC,L] RewriteRule ^test2\.html$ team.html [NC,L] The support said, a couple modules are not supported in the htaccess file, the supported ones are listed here: http://www.helicontech.com/ape/ (I think mod_rewrite is supported)
      As I do not completely understand what exactly is happening in the htaccess file, I'm stuck. I tried all suggestions I found regarding this topic on the forum, but none of them solved the problem.

      Hi everyone,
      I can't get my head around this, so maybe someone can help: I want to know how install the dev branch of processwire with composer.
      I use laragon and the "quick create" function and there you can run composer like this: "composer create-project processwire/processwire %s". OK, this is working, so I will get the master branch from it, but how about dev? I found some examples for laravel on this question, but no luck with it. Here some examples:
      composer create-project processwire/processwire %s --prefer-dist --stability=dev composer create-project processwire/processwire:dev %s composer create-project processwire/processwire:dev %s --stability=dev composer create-project processwire/processwire:dev %s --prefer-dist --stability=dev composer create-project processwire/processwire:dev-master %s --prefer-dist --stability=dev composer create-project processwire/processwire:dev-branch %s --prefer-dist --stability=dev composer create-project processwire/processwire:@dev %s --prefer-dist --stability=dev and so on... Maybe someone got this already and would like to share?
